Purpose of the OpenFlash Tablet database (dev) file?

Can anyone tell me what the purpose of the database file is on the OpenFlash Tablet?

I just received my tablet a few days ago and married it with my car this morning. After it had downloaded the stock ROM (CalID ZA1JA01G), the tablet said "Mode file not found cannot create tuning file".

I (mistakenly?) thought this worked out of the box, I guess not. I connected it to my computer and there were no bin or dev files preloaded.

I thought the dev file contained the information that needed to be changed in each stock ROM in order to make the compatible tune files. Working on this assumption, I loaded the v2 dev file to my tablet and tried flashing again, no good, same error.

I then deleted the dev file from the tablet and uploaded the stg1 bin file for my Cal ID. It uploaded to the car fine, and the car runs, so I guess it worked.

Is my car/ROM just special or am I misunderstanding what the database file is for?

the .dev file is a proprietry database format file that contains the changes required to a stock rom to make a tined rom, unfortunatly it only contains data for the most popular roms. Us guys being in australia we are not on the most popular roms it cwill autogenerate some cars and maybe A01I autos but will choke on the latest D00G roms in our region. You have doje the right thing and uploaded the fulll format .bin tunes ignore that icon thing my phone wont delete it

of you havfe not done so already read links below will keep you ocuped for a while

OK, thanks, thought it might be something like that.

I've done quite a bit of reading on the OFT these last few weeks waiting for it to arrive.

I've also seen your 98 RON ROMs, I'm still logging the default stg1 ROM to see if I get the knock issues. From the couple of logs I've generated so far it doesn't look too bad. I'm using Puma 98RON, not sure if it's better quality or not.

If I start to see frequent knocking, I'll give yours a go.

Thanks, I'm going to stick to stg1 for the time being, and the closest E85 station is too far away for me to use it regularly.
