/etc/init.d or /etc/inittab or whatever the android equiv is?

Doubt this unit allows initi.d scripts

Does it not have any native init.d scripts already present?

I doubt it. Stock kernels usually don't have support for that. That being said I haven't checked the current build. Previously I don't believe they worked.

Hmm interesting. Tbh I haven't dabbled in Android core os as much as centos. I just assumed that was standard.

Well.. after testing out different players over the past couple of days, I've come to the conclusion that poweramp crashing is just Poweramp. Poweramp is also the only media player I installed manually. It is also listed as incompatible with the Cafi device in the Android store.

So far I've tried the following players:

Rocket player - Best interface so far, big buttons (perfect for a car dash), still testing this one
Shuttle player - I would rank this as the best interface but the font on the main screen is messed up on the Cafi..
Google Music - works, but my embedded album art is shown at lowres

All of these apps are marked as compatible in the store and have not crashed when I run Waze

I also use SD Scanner to scan my SD for media, google music and shuttle player free does not allow you scan specific folders, so a media scanner is needed.

Here's a blurry pic of Rocket player

Seconding Rocket Player. Since I can't get PowerAmp to read my playlists correctly, Rocket Player is my go-to music app.

Sorry for ignoring all who have messaged me. I have sold this car unit for another. I enjoy tinkering with this stuff, which is hard to do on this unit without any source or much documentation on components used.
And of course I'm moving for my job where I will be using a metro/subway for daily travel so now I wont even get to use my radio that much haha.

Anyways, for all the people asking me, if you want to mess around with the system.img you need to lzop decompress it first then mount it like any other normal rom.

First for Linux:

Code:
lzop -x system.img.lzo
Then follow this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1588461

After your done remaking the .img we need to lzop compress it again (I cant remember if i did --best or not, either way it shouldn't matter, you can try with or without that option):
Code:
lzop --best system.img
Now to flash it correctly you have to get the md5 sum of the new file:
Code:
md5sum system.img.lzo
Change this set of numbers/letters next to system.img.lzo in md5sum.txt

NOTE: when changing/adding files in system.img remember to check that their file permissions are correct.

Wow am I glad I found this lol. I just contacted CaFi about this. It was a real shocker going from 15 to 40 volume in a matter of seconds.

Off the top of your head, do you know which wire exactly is the steering wheel control?
