ACT clutch and LWF or stock clutch and Evolution industries LWF
OK, Toyota is doing some work on my transmission and they mentioned it might be time to put in a new clutch as the one that i have shows signs of wear. Sales pitch or not, this got me thinking on what path I should choose.
Before going further, i need to mention that on the stock clutch I managed to get about 50k km (approx 31k miles) and I might be able to squeeze another 10-15k km. Pretty good if you ask me, however this is my daily with some occasional mountain run spirited driving. Now my choice are:
however I read that Exedy has a LWF that goes with stock as well. Open to suggestions. People that have the ACT clutch..how much life should i expect out if it ? I am more tempted to go with a stock clutch (as it lasted me well and they are cheap as second hand items) and LWF. |

Ask Toyota if you can take a look at the clutch and flywheel if they have your tranny open. They're always going to reccommend this since they have the transmission open and you have some miles on it. But considering you don't track your car I feel like your clutch should last a lot longer than 40k miles.

Yeah, I am planning to ask for the stock part back and I am sure they would do that just to squeeze some money on.parts ...I guess I will have to decide for later anyways

dont go with ACT. another forum member and i both had bad experiences.
long story short. I had the first ACT prolight FW and Street clutch with HD pressure plate for this car. the clutch started to drag after 10K miles, and completely failed to release after about 20K. ive since send it back to ACT for investigation. they ignore me ever since i send them the clutch back over a year ago. meanwhile another forum member recently contacted me about the exact same problem. he installed his ACT clutch after ive send my clutch back to ACT. so it seems like ACT decided not only to ignore me, they also decided to ignore fixing and updating their defective design. if i were you, i stay away from ACT. |

Read some reviews of the act, and it seems is not the right stuff atm.

I've read similar stories about the Excedy, and other brands too.
I'm running the ACT, and while I don't have too many miles on it, it feels and works great. I think a lot of issues people have with clutches are due to improper adjustment. A lot of times when you put a different clutch in, the dimensions are not identical to stock, and therefore the newly installed clutch needs adjusting. |

Go for the Exedy stage 1 kitt Whit lwf.
IF i dont got it al wrong, Exedy also makes the oem Clutch and flywheel for the twins if you think my spelling is bad, I can reassure you that I suck as much on the Swedish (dyslexi)

I've been running the Exedy LWF with stock clutch for a while now with no issues. When I do go full clutch replacement I will be sticking with Exedy. On my past car I ran a Clutchmasters FX300, 6 puck sprung and never had issues with that either, I daily drove on it for ~2 years in a boosted civic with 300hp.

I have a friend with the Excedy clutch in his car and he's having issues with it presently. Same complaints as the other brands, hard to engage 1st, dragging clutch.
As someone stated, no company is immune to occasionally having issues. My ACT is working great so far, but I don't have that many miles on it. |

My stock clutch only has 21k on it and its failing, but I belive mostly to my gearbox, which will be pulled and replaced under warranty. Bad synchros
When I go to the dealer or a shop, I always as for the old parts back. I do this so I can see if there is real wear and tear, and to keep as memories. Have the stock clutch that died in my WRX when the clutch fork broke at the pivoting point. Have it on a plinth in my garage now. I had it replaced with the exedy stg 1 and at first had issues. Re-adjusted it and it worked fine. |

I think a majority of aftermarket clutch issues are due to improper adjustment
