This little bit has been nagging me for a while. Has this Impreza platform been confirmed? Problems being how forward Subaru likes to mount engines due to AWD. Also shared platforms don't seem to scale down in weight very well. (Nissan/Inifinity FM) Second, though I know Subaru changed from a Chapman style strut rear suspension (2 lower parallel lateral links and 1 lower semi-trailing link) with the new Impreza, I'm pretty sure it's not a rear double wishbone. So what gives on this 'modified' Impreza platform?

I expect around 200hp and that would make me happy. I love the style and this is the only new car I am interested in buying someday. A turbo would be welcome too, but they would probably charge a lot for it, probably at least $5000 extra. Owning a 300zx is kind of overwhelming with all the power (still haven't been pulled over lol) i think it would be better for everyone to have around 200hp it is enough to have good fun.

300zx weighs (depending on year and submodel) roughly 3500 lbs. This car should weigh 2600? hopefully? I'd love it to be 2400, but I'm trying to be at least semi-realistic.

Anyway, R32 300zx = 300 hp, 3500lbs
FR-S = 200hp, ~2600lbs
11 2/3 lbs per HP on the R32 and 13 lbs per hp on the FR-S.
Now, you also have to look at the fact that the FR-S will likely have bigger wheels, thus bigger brakes and more contact patch. This car will weigh less to boot, so you should be able to go into a corner much faster and come out nearly as hard. This car will likely be more overwhelming than the 300zx with the right driver. (not to mention all the new tech since 10 years ago.)

I'm a fan of the 300, but to expect less from this car because it has 100 hp less isn't a good idea.

EDIT: Not to mention, the 200hp figure is N/A and the 300 hp figure I got was the VG30DETT, which is of course twin-turbo. People will be turboing this motor, whether I like it or not.

You are right about that! That will be one of the first things on the market once the car is released! TURBO KITS! Even if the car doesn't come with a Turbo already I will guarantee you you will see an after market kit for it!

You're forgetting a major advantage the 300ZX has over the FT86: displacement, and thus, torque. The torque from the 3L twin turbo can't really be compared to the 2L, even if the 2L was turbo'd.

I agree with your point that the FT86 will be more of a drivers car, but I think the 300ZX has the goods in terms of raw straight line acceleration.

All that aside, I just want Toyota to release the damn car!

Boxer engines provide a lot of torque. I expect the Hp and Torque numbers to be very similar in this car.

OK so here i come late as ever, been following the ft86 rumor mill since news first broke, and read this entire thread. Im pretty impressed with the civil conversation.

now for this ft86... I'm a turbo fan, and i totally understand keeping it pure by keeping it N/A but wouldnt it be great if toyota put in one of their turbo engines?

I remember someone on here saying that toyota hasnt produced a turbo car in 11 years, but you cant forget the toyota caldina which contained the legendary 3sgte (the newest version of themotor seen in the mr2 and GTfour)

the 4th generation 3sgte stopped being produced only 3 years ago, and Im way off in la la land by merely wishing that they would put the 3sgte in this ft86 for their OWN AWD option.

I own a 4th gen 3sgte and must say im in love with it. stock hp is 260 to the wheels. how can ya not love that?

Other than that. im ready for this damn car to come out already because im SICK of toyota being so abscent in the tuner world, N/A or turbo, This car is going to take the scene for an interesting ride

^Technically, there is no such thing as a 4th gen 3SGTE. 3SGE yes, 3SGTE no.

There is no such thing as a 4th gen 3sgte engine. The caldina engine is a revised 3rd generation engine.

Quoting wiki proves jack shit, as the are usually wrong about details, and you are talking to someone who has actually worked on these engines. Don't tell me about something that you didn't get in your market.

What does it take for you to qualify something as a new generation?
