Custom Diffuser CFD (pic heavy)

She was asking about your solver and visualization program. She advised that FUN3D is free for US citizens. It's accurate then you could plot the results with paraview (also free).

When I asked her how long it would take to get a result, she thought perhaps a week on a well spec'd desktop. #supercompterproblems

I have a Macbook Pro 15" Retina display so I was forced into using a student edition of Autodesk Flow Design because..... Mac.

It's a wind tunnel/drag simulator designed to show (not analyze) the airflow around objects. It doesn't calculate lift/downforce or heat for instance. Just airflow direction, speed, pressure (very rough) and drag (which is plenty sufficient for 99% of the average users needs)

Autodesk actually has a full on CFD, which is more akin to what your fiancee is talking about. Yeah and a couple of days to a week is accurate for a good results

If she wasn't working on finals, if ask her if she could run stuff. She's got access to several very powerful machines. I don't know if she's allowed to play with them tho

-The diffuser height/width difference, the more aggressive one is significantly more efficient at pulling air despite having a substantially lower attack angle

-Diffuser tunnel lengths and extraction area, the one on the left has almost twice the "airflow volume"

-This is the airflow of the more modest diffuser with pretty efficient vortex's at the rear of the car

-This is the airflow of the more aggressive diffuser, as you can see there is a substantial more blue (lower pressure air) being pulled from the rear thus its more efficient

The first test has a different wind speed than the second?

It was just the pic I happened to post.

I'll post another set of photos at a later when I have time to run more tests. That being said, I ran both at 44 m/s an can pretty confidently confirm the more agressive diffuser is substanitially more efficient at speed (raises overall drag relative to the smaller diffuser by ~.01 on average )
