I had one of those years ago! The car was happiest on it's own on a back road since it felt so much faster than it actually was. Unfortunately it fell victim to the pre-cat issue common with the QR25DE, but the engine was replaced under warranty by Nissan.

Second/third-hand 1999.5 MkIV Jetta... 5spd with the 2.slow truck engine...
Bought it from a used car dealer for about $5k, came with bonus dried coke and a couple strands of blond hair (eww) in the armrest console and broken cupholders.
Consumed oil, had a giant (dead) mosquito in one headlamp, and a AM/FM/cassette deck (no CDs here!).

Still a fun little car, and great for learning manual - even managed (foolishly and accidentally) to cause lift-off oversteer on a public street once (luckily I didn't lift - so I lived, and looked like a hero too).

For the sake of my sanity, I like to imagine that blond hair belonged to a beautiful young woman named Sandy.
More likely, it was from a dude named Stanley.

As for the coke...... "It was there when I bought the car. It's not mine"
