Will be bringing the BRZ. Any good suggestion for nice roads to drive? Any winter-related prep I should do (aside from snow tires, having a shovel, and maybe a bag of kitty litter or sand)? |

Ya, there are a few roads around but a lot of it is just flat. The normal prep will work. Our temps do get as low as the rest of the country but we can get shitloads of snow being between all the Great Lakes.

I would buy one off of a private seller that was either never modded or very lightly modded. After 45 years of driving and buying a lot of used cars I have learned what to look for and what to avoid (sometimes the hard way).

Flat is fine. I just want some curves. Waitaminute - I just contradicted myself. There's no way any roads anywhere could out-bore Toronto roads. |

Agreed, the car may have ran its course already, but I would like to hope there is more they can do. I really think they need to make another FR car or lower the price of the twins. The problem to me is this car is viewed as a toy, but the 400 dollar payments most people get quoted doesn't make it a toy. If they could make a more price friendly car then I think the sells would blow up. Something in the tC range. |

Just talk to my widow when that time comes. She never liked the thing.

I'd be hard pressed to give up a 2ZZ MR2 for an FR-S. You are making the right call. Kudos for rocking an MR2 at 60+. I hope to never grow up, too. ![]() Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

A toy to me is something you can't and probably shouldn't drive every day. A Lambo, Ferrari, or track car is a toy. In most cases a motorcycle is a toy. The 86 is actually a relatively practical daily driver in the end, as long as it meets your criteria. It gets decent gas mileage, can carry a reasonable load (for its size) and works well for a single person, or a couple that occasionally may need to carry a third or (heaven forbid) a fourth. I do agree it has a relatively small market. Given current car prices though I wouldn't say it is priced too high. It would not work as an econobox, as the current price supports it in its most usable minimal form. Adding more power or other "luxuries" would only increase the price point to where folks are going to jump to a pony car or a more "practical" sports sedan. I can tell you for me (and I said this on here at the time) had the 86 been over $25K in 2012, I would not have purchased it. That was my break point to moving up to a bigger/better/faster car. As I said above, Toyota/Subaru will need to refresh it to get current buyers to move to whatever MK2 becomes. I don't think the market is saturated, the question is whether or not it is sustainable.

The important thing to me is that they made the car in the first place and there are 63K of them running around the US. Even if they do not make another one that still means that people that want one will be able to get their hands on a used on for the next 10-15 years and there will be an aftermarket for them at least that long. As the cars get a few years on them more enthusiast will be getting them and modding them.
I am all for Toybaru making a second gen of the car but not if it strays from its original intent. It needs to stay lightweight, nimble, practical and affordable. They should follow Mazda's example of how to keep the MX5 relevant for the long term. Stay true to the original concept.
