Few questions, Picking up Series.Blue tomorrow!

I know I should wait to make this post tomorrow, but I seriously can't. I am so excited for the deal I got and the car that I'm about to get, compounded with graduating college Sunday - I truly am elated.

Had a few questions though..

Best place to buy the smoked valenti taillights + back up light?

Also, is it best to follow the manufacturer break in period because those 1,000 miles appear as if they will be miserable not being able to "drive hard."

Last, but not least, 4 year 100,000 extended (I will probably drive 25k miles a year, give or take a few), full coverage warranty for $1200, opinions?

Congrats! First off, what color Series.Blue?

Second, following manufacturer break in is recommended as you would have to polish out the gearings and what not. Also being able to shift through all the gears at different speeds allows the car to break in properly.

However, to each their own. There really is no right way to break it in per se. Do what you want!

I have the Subaru Gold Plus warranty as I didn't want to take any chances, so maybe you're on the same boat with that one.

I paid around $900 for mine.

Congrats on college and choosing an awesome platform

Break-In period:

Follow at least 1k miles of not going past 5-6k rpms if you can help it, and vary the RPMs quite a bit. Don't worry about techniques to seat the seals- they do that at the factory and loading dock now . The clutch will especially be sensitive to break-in and can run a risk of glazing if not taken lightly for the first 500 miles or so. The transmission and rest of the drive-train will smooth out over a longer period of time- around 10-20k miles.

Warranty:

We need more info. Do you plan to modify the drivetrain significantly (FI, N/A tune, extreme suspension setups)? If so, then don't worry about the warranty. Market research shows those plans pay out at a disparately low rate across most people.

If you aren't going to modify the car's drivetrain heavily, then go for it. Not a bad price for an extended.


And best place to buy stuff is all over the internet. FT86Speedfactory, DSG, Corner3Garage, Ebay, fteightysix, diodedynamics, HID Powerhouse, all have different deals and whatnot, but most will float around the same price. japanparts.com for the import stuff.

I would advise just using common sense as far as break in, you dont need to follow the instructions to a 'T', but you probly don't need to be thrashing the thing all the time either. If you're driving 25k miles a year that 1,000 mile break in will be over in a heartbeat anyway.

I got the white Series.Blue, something about the black and white contrast is simply amazing!

I suppose *sigh* I will follow the break in.

I think I will go with the warranty, what was the term/mileage of your warranty?

Thank you for the elaborate break-in period advice, I appreciate it and will follow it!

As for the warranty, I do not believe I will be making heavy modifications to the car. The only things that I can imagine myself doing is eventually putting maybe an intake on it, potentially a tune (probably not), coilovers(?) to lower it an inch, and that would be about it. I'm not exactly a "car" guy when it comes to building them, but I love researching, driving, and enjoying cars!

Okay, I'll just search around and see what are some of the best prices and see if they are reputable dealers then!

Yeah, I have a month until those mileage numbers start to pile up as that is when I start my job! I was just hoping to have some fun with it before then, which I believe will be able to happen anyway! Thanks for the warm welcome.

I have the WRB Series.Blue and I am damn proud of it.

I have the WeatherTech floormats and they work wonders through rain. Keeps the mats under it new also. You can easily wash them by taking them out from time to time also.

I recommend them.

i have gold plus warranty, i got mine for free and i don't know why. It is sweet. I blew my tire at 2000 miles (2 months after i got the car) and dealer replaced it for free because i have gold plus warranty.

break in period- i drive per manufacture recommendation. It's there for a reason and they are more interested than you in keeping your car running forever and problem free.

tail light - i got mine at groupbuy section in this forum.

Also, for reference, I'm about 3-4 months into my purchase and I already installed a new shift knob and a CAI. About to change my crank pulley and swap it out for one of the aftermarket ones.

Be aware: once you start modding, it gets really really addicting...

I need to check which warranty it is. They just said it was like $1,250 for 4 years/100k miles, all inclusive. I wish I could've got the groupbuy

@Droid, my warranty was 6 years/75,000 miles or something like that. There was something extra included in that also, which is why my price was high. Forgot what it was though.

I have about 6500 miles on my Series.Blue and aside from the WeatherTechs already mentioned I would say an easy mod that made a big difference for me was switching out the interior lights with LED. I went with Diode Dynamics and couldn't be happier. You wouldn't believe how incredible it makes all the blue trim look.
