Hmmm speaking of aluminum, how is bonded aluminum usually repaired? I imagine you can't weld it, or the heat would damage the nearby epoxy...
But yea, the FSAE guys at my school apparently had a lot of issues with fatiguing parts especially since they try extra hard to shave mass off. I imagine frame damage isn't a big deal if you can repair it such that there isn't extra stress where there used to not be, but that's probably difficult to do. |

![]() A year ago i used to average around 10min miles and my best was a little below 9:30. Now I run 5k and 10k runs with 7minute miles. So, like anything else all it takes is hard work, dedication, and persistence! I'm currently addicted and working on doing obstacle runs such as: Spartan Race, Tough Mudder, & Run For Your Lives. My goal is to complete the Spartan Trifecta next year!

10:30 is really good! LOL
I ran/fastwalkedwhenigottired downhill to the train station in about 10 minutes, 1 mile. Last time I ran in high school (like 3 years ago) I would be happy if I got under 11:30 :P |

Unfucking big, structural aluminum is a pain in the ass. They could maybe drill out the rivets, unbond the epoxy (?) and completely replace the damaged area with new stuff.

Just a stupid wild guess, but if the damage is "local", maybe it would be possible to cut any permanently deformed areas out and epoxy in a "patch" (of aluminum)? Still extremely expensive of course. |

T0 happens. Compare that to T4 or T6.

So heating the already tempered Aluminum changes it's tensile strength that much? I'm new to Materials and have minimal (basically none) welding experience on Al.
Edit: But re-heat-treating can bring the welded Al back to T4-T6 properties (as can age), so perhaps welding on a piece of the frame is viable?

When someone does a engine overhaul. What really happens? Does it give the engine it's life back like a new engine?
