I don't get the stretched tire look...

What's the point of having heavier wider wheels if you're going to put the same amount of tire on the ground????

because thread title.
whats the point of doing anything you like? do people ask why you bought a sports car that isnt even fast?

btw there are other threads dedicated to complaining about this sort of thing.
we dont go to autocross threads and ask why suspensions are so high and soft.

Wait, so you're trying to tell me that aggressive wheels are wheels with tires stretched to almost their tearing point???

I thought aggressive wheels would be wide wheels, or tall wheels or offset wheels bigger in back than in front...

That's what aggressive wheels are to me... stretched tires on wider wheels should have a thread called "Gay Wheels"...

Its simple...EACH TO THEIR OWN...some like the stretched/aggressive look, some don't...Don't like the content of this thread?...No need to comment then...this is no place for trolls.

This is all from that one guys response to my initial question...

Neat!
I initially stated that I didn't understand the purpose of the whole stretched tires over wheels, because it didn't seem to suit a purpose to me because you get the added unsprung weight of a wider wheel but no more surface area of tire touching the ground.

It was only due to butt hurt comments that it escalated to what it did.

The reply could have easily just been, some people like the look and it doesn't have to suit a performance purpose. It was still just my opinion that I DIDN'T see the purpose of it.

IF the thread title was ONLY referring to stretched tires over wider wheels (then I can see your point) I was not aware of that, (IF it was the case), when I made my initial post which is why I stated what I perceived to be aggressive wheels.

I am NOT a troll and there have been some cars in this thread that I HAVE liked.

While I am NOT a troll, I AM a sarcastic bastard and I WILL respond in kind when I get a douchey response.

Just FYI (a bit out of context of this thread), wider wheels *can* improve handling a little depending on a variety of conditions. Sidewall response will be soft if you overtire a rim, vs if the tire is slightly stretched, it will be much more responsive (stiffens the sidewalls). I know several autoX guys who like their tires very slightly stretched, vs square - obviously a lot of factors involved though (suspension alignment, brand/type of tire, etc). But just illustrating that in many cases a wider rim with a slightly stretched tire will be preferrable to a narrower/lighter rim (i.e. stock) with too much tire. In the context of this thread - as the other guys alluded to - this is not really a performance oriented thread, so back to the regularly scheduled program already in progress
