Only some of them. There are still a lot of idiot teenage drivers snatching up Civic Si's, even when they had "only" 197 hp.

Kind of an expensive car for your average 22 year olds or less.
I think the techy type who likes weekend autocrossing and your occasional track day will be the ideal demographic for this car. |

That's not the point. The insurance due to it being a sports car is only part of the story... the statistics based on violations and accidents of drivers behind the wheel of such a car play a bigger role. For example, an M3, with a full 130 hp more than my Evo, is less expensive to insure, despite being more powerful and also quicker accelerating, not to mention sportier and far more expensive. Why? Because too many people have been ticketed or been involved in physical damage claims in my car. That is what caused the rates to be even higher.

Insurance companies look less at the type of car it is and more at the amount of claims for that particular model. My father used to be in underwriting and explained it to me.They dont care if youve been driving 30 years without a single ticket or claim, its what everyone else does in that car that raises your rates.

I see plenty of children driving around in $40K+ cars, although not common nation wide; the driver makes the car, not the other way around. If one is an asshole driver regardless of age, it will be perceived badly either way.

The driver makes the car... more expensive to insure. If nobody ever crashed a certain car, then that car's rates would likely stay pretty stable, regardless of what lurks under the hood, within reason (as 500+ hp vehicles will always be pricey regardless). But what happens to the car increases the rate for that car, and everyone pays for it because just like how statistics back younger drivers being more likely to be involved in accidents, having a car that has seen more than its fair share of claims might indicate that other drivers in it may see the same fate. But again, if you're young or if you have five speeding tickets, your rates will suck regardless. So it's still based on the driver, but not just that. |

Ppl that still own STI, EVO, Si, & other ridiculously expensive insurance owners know what they're paying... but that car is worth every penny of that expensive insurance, so they keep em. That's my point, if FRS/BRZ isn't worth every penny of your insurance or worry about other morons gonna make it higher rate insurance... move on to another car. It sound harsh, but worrying about these kind of things are endless. I heard it enough when GC came out |
