The Roman Empire rule for 1,400 years and thought that they were Gods but eventually went the dodo way. United States has only been in power for a mere 89 years?

The largest economies are typically those which are killing the planet at the fastest rate.

I can't fathom how that is anything to be proud of.

Who cares, no point getting knickers in a twist over it.

Maybe if your knickers were in a twist you would go ahead and try to do something about it. Many small changes can make a big impact.

How do you figure even 89 years? Through the late 20s to 41 the US was pretty much broke and the government's isolationist policies kept it from being any form of world economic leader (or any form of world leader for that matter).
Now from 1946 on that is a whole different story.

Just a rough guesstimate but I have a feeling it's way less..

They are "communist" in name only and have been for about 20 years. Capitalism is alive and well in China and in fact it is obviously thriving.
I think a lot of people picture the place as a bunch of peasant hovels hammering out stuff by hand. This is not the case! In the recent past China has modernized to a point that anybody that had not been there in 20 years probably would not know it is the same place.
I am actually headed there next year to do safety audits on a several of our plants. These are all state of the art facilities that make most of our North American locations look positively quaint!!!!

Well, the Moto X is (was) manufactured in the USA... However, I'm pretty sure China parts are secretly hidden inside though.
