How do you figure even 89 years? Through the late 20s to 41 the US was pretty much broke and the government's isolationist policies kept it from being any form of world economic leader (or any form of world leader for that matter).
Now from 1946 on that is a whole different story.

I think a lot of people picture the place as a bunch of peasant hovels hammering out stuff by hand. This is not the case! In the recent past China has modernized to a point that anybody that had not been there in 20 years probably would not know it is the same place.
I am actually headed there next year to do safety audits on a several of our plants. These are all state of the art facilities that make most of our North American locations look positively quaint!!!!
