How did you guys work around the sub option

From the old head unit to the new head unit.

You know how the old one had a separate subwoofer adjustment. The new units don't. Any work around?

My JL 500/1 had a sub level out so I wired up the sub control to be where the fog light option is to the left of the steering column.

fr-s has one of the new units (2015). Had to run a line converter on the preamp input wires on the amp in the back. JL 12w6v3 pounds

I used the Audiocontrol lc2i for my 13' brz. It converts the speaker line to preamp. You can also use the Cleansweep from JL. Those guys put out very high quality stuff. Good luck.

Tcoat don't pay 2x as much for something like that

My setup bangs and it is half the price of that. Add in one of those custom fiberglass boxes for $500 (forget what vendor has an awesome thread around here.. looks completely OEM) you'll get twice the speaker for the price. To each his own though

I am open to any suggestions as long as they are an easy install. I have no issues ripping the whole car apart until it comes to hooking up electronic components then my experience is so far out of date it is sad.
Put it this way, my last audio install was an under dash 8 track player!!!!!!!!

So I am not even a novice when it comes to stereos and ohms and all that crazy wiring and sh*t (honestly it confuses and frustrates the hell out of me)... but what I did was created my own fiberglass box using directions off the internets. It was a LOT of work but really fun and the supplies only cost me about $50. Then I bought an Alpine shallow mount sub and a Rockford Fosgate amp. Used a "line out" converter (THE MOST FRUSTRATING PART because it's impossible to find the right wiring diagram apparently because I had to hack the wires in my stereo to sh*t to find out which one was rear out and the display power)... My buddy helped me push the power cable from the battery to the back and then we wired it up and it works great.

I would definitely suggest building your own box if you're crafty. I'll submit photos of mine when I get a chance. I got lazy and just rino lined the fiberglass black but because I used the side "dead space" in my trunk it takes up very little space (much like the stealth box and the OEM plus box only $300 cheaper) and sounds great.

If guns kill people I can blame my pencil for misspelled words.

So it was such an easy process. The installer just put a bass knob under my steering wheel. It independently controls the bass levels so that my tube is not connected to the speaker bass volumes.

The knob was 35 bucks.

Car sounds amazing
