Any cheap paint or vinyl will discolor. Just like window tint will discolor if its cheap. A good vinyl or good paint job using good supplies will last for a very long time. If you take proper time in sanding and prepping the surface and use good paint with a good clear coat, youll be fine.

I can't see vinyl lasting long without edges peeling up or getting hit with things on the road causing the vinyl to tear. If you get a good clear coat you shouldn't have any fading problems with paint.

Not saying vinyl won't peel, but getting hit with things? Are you driving backwards on the freeway?

Vinyl is a nice and cheap solution that is easily reversible for those who want that. That said, I'd like to try out Metalcast next. I have the paint from a previous project, just haven't had a fire under me to actually give it a shot.

Finally pried these things off, didn't know they were just covers!

I was gonna wrap them but the body color looks good. The chrome always drew your eyes to it, but there's better parts of the car to focus on

Definitely less of a possibility, I hear u. But I'd be more concerned with it peeling and surviving through snowy winters.

I drove over an hour away to get the front of my car wrapped with Xpel, then sat in the waiting room for a half hour, and then had them pull my car into their bay, only for the guy to THEN tell me that he didn't get the Xpel shipment in time so all he had was the wrong size roll of 3M...
...so then I drove over an hour home and in order to calm my nerves I ordered a boatload of replacement bulbs from DiodeDynamics for the outside of the car, lol. Front and rear turn signal bulbs (XP80), reverse lights (XP50), side marker lights (HP3), and License Plate Lights (SMD2). I plan on doing a proper indoors/outdoors daytime comparison since it's always damned near impossible to find proper comparison videos (dunno why people insist on doing all the comparison videos at night when all that does is blow-out the exposure and make it impossible to tell the difference, lol.)

Did you have to make an appointment? If you did, you should ask for a discount when you finally get it done, as compensation for the long drive, and them not getting their inventory straight.
