Omg that is NOT duct tape! We called it Mach Tape or 1000 MPH tape. It's a thick aluminum foil with a seriously tough adhesive back. I still have the bottom of a roll I <ahem> accidentally packed when I came back to the states in 89!

As someone with an Aerospace Engineering degree, I am qualified to give you the correct answer:

It's definitely duct tape. Duct tape can do anything. In fact, most aircraft are at least 15% duct tape construction, internally. We just don't use it for the exterior skin because it tends to crack when exposed to UV rays. Wing structures, fuel tanks, bulkheads, though... all fair game.

I have seen Mach tape (and also may have had a part roll many years ago) and what is in that picture is not that! You can actually see the duct tape logo in the center of the roll.
Or of course my brain may just want it too be duct tape so I am seeing what I want to! It is pretty shiny for duct tape.

I wasn't offended in the least! Upon further investigation and zooming in on the roll in the original pic I recant my prior statements and concede that it is indeed Mach tape! What I thought was red print and logo in the pic is actually black and although I can not clearly read it, it is exactly the same pattern of print on your sample.
