I appreciate it. I wish I lived closer to Chicago to check out meets more often, but I chose to live close to work for now. I'm living in Bourbonnais, so I'm basically an hour away from Chicago.
Welcome! I moved here from AZ last January, so I can certainly sympathize with being new to the Midwest from somewhere sunny and nice. Be prepared to answer "Why in the hell did you move here?!" on a daily basis. haha

Most of us seem to be near the northern suburbs, so a lot of the meets take place in Schaumburg, but there are quite a few people down in Naperville and Joliet too. Like everyone said, the FB page is where we're all at. I'm Chris btw!

An hour from Chicago is... normal? Heck, I've worked in the loop for almost 10 years and only recently was able to make the move from Gurnee into the city.

I get why you'd move here from Cali or Az though much nicer here, weather and more.

Enjoy your stay.

Illinois is OK. Chicago is a mix but some gems and some jerks, and the food scene is fattening. So many Michelin stars.

I'm in technology, and I get to choose Chicago or Seattle. CA is out on cost, as is NY. TX isn't even a good laugh. I happen to work for acompany with awesome people and very good work/life balance, which is hard to find in tech. But I enjoy the seasons and when my back isn't in the way, love playing in the snow.

Learn to dress for the weather and it won't bother you. Hot is the only weather you can't solve through clothing. or even lack thereof.

For a 25 year Arizona native, I handle the cold pretty well. However, I'd rather deal with hot than freezing cold any day. Easy solutions are to go spend the day at the lake, or drive a little further north to escape the heat. It's far less debilitating to go outside in the 100+ degree heat than it is in subzero temps. Also, no salt to ruin your cars! haha

In your shoes, I'd have definitely picked Seattle over Chicago. Even Texas, depending on where in the state it was. But that's just me I suppose.

i work in tech too, what do you do?

i'm slowly getting pretty tired of this cold action. i hop up to minneapolis a lot. last year there were multiple occasions where i started the car here, saw -8, drove to the airport, flew to minny, started the rental car and saw -12. not a fun time

I'm a pixel wrangler. User Interface for web, and generally trying to keep an enterprise scale website pushing forward rather than sitting and getting stale.

I didn't see many folks in Grayslake with this car - one a couple years ago for a while at the train station, and twice as we were preparing to move out, when I had a car full of electronics on the way to the recycling facility.

The weather out here is fine. I enjoyed the walk to the train this morning - think it was about 15 before the windchill. Sunny though, and the air had a good smell to it.

Hey guys

Been in Chicago for two weeks now (downtown), scheduled to work here for the next 6 months.

I'm from South Africa , and left my 86 behind there....really miss it everyday :-(

In South Africa we use our cars everyday all the time due to our public transportation systems in development. So walking, using cabs and trains is foreign to me , it's been quite cool and challenging walking to work at freezing temps...

Iv seen a few FRS's and BRZ's around downtown, but I must say the roads in downtown and the loop are NOT the best, and I would be worried driving my 86 here

Iv been on tours around the city and love Chicago, I noticed there's allot of activities involving art, music , food etc ... Things that don't really interest me

I have been researching Motorsport activity and could not find much....

Any guidance on the Motorsport industry in Chicago ? Hiring cars and going on tracks ? Gymkhanas ? Autocross ?

Note I have a Kia for a rental , so Il need to hire another car for a Motorsport event

Thanks
