SCION VANDAL UPDATE:

Wife and I have been stopping at the school in hopes of catching the Scion vandal. He leaves early for co-op but we could never see him leave. My wife parked next to him in our durango at noon. She sat in the backseat hidden. The fawkin asswipe comes out of the school and kicks a black nissan in the door!!! He stopped next to the scion like he was going to do something but then changed his mind and walked away. Boom!!!! Busted!!! Calling school in a few.

This would be a good time to sue the kid in court. Subpoena the school video. Should keep him tied up for a little while.

stalking is a strong term with a negative connotation. Murders/muggers/rapist/cats stalk. Someone covertly researching the destruction/defacement of their property would be engaged in private investigation.
Besides, this is at a school, and we all know that schools are weapon free zones, so there isn't any way for them to get stabbed or shot.

Investigation should be left to the police and school officials. In this case the total evidence the OP has consists of "we know it is him", "the guy looked nervous" and a kick to a different car. If OP's car had been kicked the damage would be greater then the small dings that won't show up in a picture.

Investigation is open to anyone who is willing to do it, Hence the term Private I. The police/school have less motivation to investigate than the one who is being harmed. The law belongs to the people not the police, and the people have every right to uphold it on their own.

as for the "weapons free" I was being facetious. And pointing out another example of the "law" failing to protect, and preventing the self protection of law abiding citizens.

You proved my point in your own post:

Stalking does indeed leave a negative connotation if your very definition labels it a crime. Investigating the destruction of your own property on public land is not a crime. To my knowledge, other than a(at the time) baseless accusation built on gut instinct by OP against a random kid, he or his wife have never followed, or harassed this suspected kid, much less, repeatedly over a period of time. As to watching him(the suspect) according to the info we have, OP randomly viewed the kid once which does not meet the willful criteria for stalking, and his wife viewed him once randomly while keeping an eye on their property(the car).

No, I think that sounds like teaching them the value of things. Why must parents coddle and condone immature actions of their kids? Of course, if the kid has already done great or there are other issues at hand with them riding bikes to school then that is a different issue.

If you're gonna stalking children, why not at least use a video camera? I get the school has cameras, but it seems they are unwilling to stay on top of this the way you have.
