Ya simply rebadging European models is not really coming out with new "Scions".
That practice may work for a while but will go bad on them eventually.

And that shows how much attention I ever paid to Scion/Toyota before the FRS!
Had no clue that they we all just rebadges and always thought they were unique.

I think Toyota is okay with them being rebadges, not much engineering costs. Wasn't that the original plan for Scion anyway? To sell rebadged JDM models in North America and promote them as hip & cool.

GM & Vauxhall/Opel, Fiat & Chrysler/Dodge, Dacia/Renault all rebadge vehicles. Kind of common practice.

I don't know why that article says the FR-S is made by Subaru. I tried telling my local Toyota parts department that, and he spun the screen around and pointed to the word Scion, and told me Scion is made by Toyota.

Oh don't worry you get used to it after a while!
If you ever run across the 20 page debate on what the "proper" tire pressure should be give it a read as it is a hoot!

technically that's mostly true.

Theres a few exceptions that are actually opposite.

The xA and xB1 were rebadged Japanese Toyotas.
The iQ is obviously a rebadged Toyota iQ.
The FRS was global, but Toyota decided to give it to Scion for North America.

Now the xB2, tC and the xD started life AS Scions and were exported and rebadged as Corolla Rumion, Zelas and urban cruiser respectively for Europe (and japan?)

Also the bB 2 in Japan Subaru made one too called the Dex but that was never brought over here unfortunetly. They screwed up I think personally. They should have brought the bB2 here not Rumion. Also i'm not sure if they have to do with one another but the first gen xb, and coolbear look exactly the same.

Lmao,

You'd think that Toyota would go out on a whim for its Scion line. They need to make something that pulls in the [younger] crowed instead of pushing its foreign design in the US. However, what could bring more life to the Scion crowed would be adding a turbo on a car like the TC, 2nd gen turbo'd FRS/BRZ, or maybe something comparable to the WRX & Evo. Shit, slap a turbo on the Corolla and rebadge that to Scion.

That's one thing Toyota is falling behind on is engine development. Though I have read articles about Toyota working with BMW for their Lexus line. They should add at least one affordable turbo line to their Scion and/or Lexus list. I believe Lexus is getting its first turbo'd car in 2015 with a BMW engine design.

I love my FRS (heavily modified) but I'm still not a fan of the Scion line. We all know they can do better. Toyota Corp. makes good money. Why not do something fun, turbo'd and affordable? Most people aren't going to afford the newly designed supra (FT-1) or Lexus RC F or IS F.

Just my two cents :p
