There's a Fossil store in Rideau Center, maybe you could go and take a look if they have it there? Problem solved!

Personally, I don't like Fossil just because they're a dime a dozen. Not saying they're bad watches, just so common. For under $300, I really like Orient and/or Seiko dive watches (Orient is owned by Seiko). Here's a couple I like and would meet your budget.

I would consider some of the Seiko Solar and Citizen Eco-Drives too. They have a number of chronograph options and are very well made.

If you want to stretch the budget a little, check out Christopher Ward C7 Rapide. I have one and its a very nice watch. Tissot PRC watches are also a good option.

Go with a Seiko...more specifically I'd suggest the SNDC81 model:

Just swap out the folded links with a solid link bracelet and pick up a nice black Italian rubber strap and nice tan leather strap while you are at it. And...Bam... you have a watch for most all occasions.

or depending on how soon you plan on getting it there's a micro brand coming out with a nice Seiko VK64 Meca-Quartz movement watch for ~ $300...

I like Seiko dive watches (I own an Orange Monster) they are good quality, and I have a thing for automatics or hand-wound. Not a fan of quarts-call me old fashioned.

I agree.

I'm into watches (deeper than my pocketbook can handle) and I like nice watches. I'm not too hot on anything Quartz because Quartz watches just don't have the mechanics, and the heritage, the soul, that fine watches have. That's just my preference, quartz watches are WAY WAY more accurate, and require less maintenance and servicing, so in many ways they are far superior to mechanical watches.

This eliminates most watches from my "I would own that list", but Seiko makes some very nice automatic watches for sure. The Orange and Black Monsters are very nice and respected watched.

Grand Seikos are way up there into Rolex/Panerai price territory and also super nice.

Wearing my Orange Monster today reminded me of this thread.

Modded my Orient BRZ watch...

(removed the hideous bezel...)

Plan on removing over half the material from the bezel, making it smooth and tapered to better integrate with the watch along with being natural stainless in color.
