Feedback on suggested audio build
Hi all,
Firstly, I'm nowhere near as knowledgeable about car audio as I am about home audio. For this reason I went to a couple of local car audio dealers and discussed various options with them for my '15 FRS RS 1.0. One has now come back to me with a quote for a build with suggested components. I'd appreciate a second (third, fourth, fifth, etc.) opinion on the setup they are proposing before I pull the trigger. I enjoy a wide variety of music from classic rock to trance and dubstep and sound quality is quite important to me. I wanted something with NAV although I probably won't use it a lot, and with Carplay (probably will use it a fair bit). This is what they have suggested for my complete audio overhaul: HU: Pioneer AVIC-8000NEX SP: Focal 165KRX2 (fully active) SW: 2 x JL 10TW3-D4 AMP: 2 x Alpine PDX-F6 (one for Focal's, one for JL's) DSP: Audison Bit Ten They will be building a custom enclosure for the subs. Any thoughts on the above or alternative suggestions? Thanks so much =) |

Wow, that seems like a lot of money. Good luck with the build though. I'm still curious because I'll likely upgrade my system at some point.

Nope. Just buy the $1000 OEM Audio + and install headunit yourself.

There's also the $1500 OEM Audio+ Reference system that includes new door woofers and converts it to a 2-way system. That's the route I think I'm going. Looked at the custom route, but I don't think I can do better for the money, and I'm not willing to spend enough $7k on my system at this time.

the price is pretty fair IF you are getting a quality install....we do a lot of FR bulds in the 8-12k price point.
here is the tweeter going? the main thing i ask is that the KRX2 tweeter is pretty bright, and it could be accentuated in the stock location. what shop is doing this btw? b

Update from a visit to another shop:
Went to Sounds Good (for those that are local) - shop manager Ruben seemed far more knowledgeable and suggested the first shop always suggests the exact build I was quoted above. Ruben suggest a build that was close one that he's in the process of doing for himself... HU: Alpine INE-W957HD SP: Morel Elate 603 3 way SW: JL 13TW5v2-4 AMP: 2 x JL300/4v3 active (one for the Morel woofers, one for the Morel mids and tweets AMP: JLXD600/1 Custom build for the sub and amps with a spare tire removal and presentation fiberglass box with plexiglass and custom etching and lighting (Ruben and I came up with some very unique ideas around the etching and lighting that could turn out pretty cool) Tweeters will be placed on the A pillars rather than in the dash. Price is likely going to be a little bit higher than my original quote. Installation and build time will be 3 to 4 days. Thoughts on these components? |

Do you have an android phone? If you do and you are okay rooting it the Pioneer unit is the way to go. FULL (as in plug in your phone and drop it in the glove box) control of your phone from the head unit using a free app called ARUnchained. It is a hack of the Pioneer AppRadio app. Freaking wonderful. Full google voice commands, google maps, navigation, read texts and email, write texts and email with voice.
The focals sound great, never heard the Morels. |
