Saw a Lamborghini yesterday. Slowed down so he could catch up, then did a short bit of spirted driving next to him. Seemed like a cool cat to me. All laughs, until I needed to make a turn to go a different direction. Road conditions and people's moods are variable, just roll with it and have a big stupid smile in your frs/brz

I see you're from cen cal, the land of the raised truck HID glare douche bags, this happens to me too often

If you want to chase "better" cars just go to hpde and you can do it all day. It beats being an armchair racer.

I have a great interstate on ramp nearby that comes around 270 degrees, decreasing radius and banked about 10 degrees. Did I mention its 2 laned the entire way. I have left "better" cars for dead there more times than I can count only to have them do the fly by after I'm already merged into traffic.

I'd slow down too if some randy was riding my ass on a winding road. I don't need him losing control and rear ending me.

My other vehicle is a Jeep. I've had more than one spirited discussion on this topic on one of the Jeep boards.

The problem with older trucks is that the old sealed beam headlights are crap, and as time goes by the wiring harnesses get corroded so that less and less juice is getting to the lamps. So a popular mod is to upgrade the headlights. There are a several ways to do it, some of them better than others. Unfortunately the better ways are also the more expensive ways, but these idiots are buying cheap Chinese LED bank headlights or those fake eBay HID lenses that have no cutoff and spray light all over the place. All these guys care about is that they have fixed their dim headlight problem on the cheap, and screw all the other drivers on the road who are being blinded.

But if you criticize it at all, you're a "hater."

Those LED bars are intended for off-road use only, and they are very handy when you need to light up a trail or scene. They put out a LOT of light with very little draw comparative to older incandescent off road lamps. But they shouldn't be using them while driving on the road. Ever.

My own rig will eventually have those LED strips on all four sides of my roof rack for scene lighting. I got accustomed to the scene lights on the TV trucks I used to drive, and it comes in handy more often than you might think. But not while you're driving.

If you slow down, you just piss them off further. If you speed up, they speed up and make the situation even more dangerous. The best thing to do is to maintain your speed. If they lose control on a curve, momentum will carry them outward and not forward. The only way they're going to lose control and hit you is if you slow down.

On another note about tailgaters, I recently bought a TapTurn module with the strobe pack from another member here. I have my hazards set to strobe, and pushing the turn signal stalk to the right causes the hazards to "wig-wag" strobe, or alternate sides. I think I've used it five times now when people were tailgating me, and four of them backed off. It's something unexpected that isn't an aggressive, and most people will back off simply because they're not sure what the hell is going on.

I'm sure some stupid cop will see me do that and give me a ticket for my strobes instead of the tailgater, but until that happens I think I may have at least partially solved that problem.

See, and I just realized I was making a generalization based on my bad experiences with these yahoos. Now I know there's a correct way to do it. Much appreciated.

Here's a novel idea: PULL OVER.

If someone is catching up to you, it may just be that they're a more capable driver. If they can keep control at speeds that make you uncomfortable, then by all means, PULL OVER.

It sucks to be stuck behind someone who isn't as skilled. Recognize your limitations and let them pass. If they fall off the edge at the next corner, at least you'll be able to call the proper agency. And you might just be surprised to find that there are drivers who can do impressive stuff with limited resources.
