Lighter wheel / tire combo is definitely #1 performance mod. Pretty sure I'll stick with 17" just haven't decided if I want stock width or a hair wider. Will wait for some reports from fellow BRZ owners

The only concerns I have with mods is that once I start, I have a hard time stopping.

With that said, lightweight 17x8s, sticky tires (but not too sticky to kill the excitement), and weight loss wherever possible.

Come to think of it, those will likely be my first mods with the car. Then after some track time, I'll adjust the handling of the car according to my preferences.
I'll admit.. I'm still a little old school where I like the look of bigger than stock wheels. I'm pondering going with 18's but to keep the overall rolling diameter the same. I'll have a set of a 17" track set to fool around with on the track.. possibly even just the OEM stockers lol. I don't plan to "drift" on public roads anyway. ... I just realized once the street "racers" get theirs hands on this and total their FRSs/BRZs everywhere our insurance rates are going to go sky high

Yes, street racers + RWD + fairly tossable chassis? Oh boy...

Does anyone know exactly how much the stock rims weigh?

And this is probably the most helpful thread I have read on this site to date.

I'm not doubting you but if you're right, that's good news. This means the factory wheels aren't super light so one can improve on them. In my case, I'm really just concerned about preserving the factory dynamics of the car for the first year or so. This means we can upgrade to bigger aftermarket wheels but still say within the factory intended weight specs (somewhat).

For example a set of these. 19s will be heavier by 2-4lbs on avg though you have better tire selection with 18s.

That particular pan won't protect fuel and brake lines. What you may be looking for is the underbody panels that most our cars are not equipped with. I have purchased them for a modest fee and are happy with the results.
