I love the BRZ and can't wait for mine to arrive, but let's not get too overly crazy here... The BRZ was still slower than a car with fairly crappy handling (in comparison), granted it had 100 more HP. The Mustang guys could easily spin this "BRZ win" in the other direction and have some valid points. I'm no fan of the Mustang either - ugly, bloated things that they are.

Just think of what a BRZ with +50HP and +40TQ would do? That'd probably be worth getting crazy about.

the 3.7L mustang is .1 seconds slower on the figure 8 without the track package
the brz still is 100 hp and 100 tq less than the mustang
i still see that as a win for the brz to me...

Also, add that the BRZ as tested was less expensive, and an FRS would be cheaper still.

And yes, I know that's probably MSRP and you may be able to get the mustang for same or less....

Perhaps it's a win, but it's kind of a subjective win. If you look purely at the times, the Mustang still wins - it's just that it doesn't win by much, compared to a car that's down 100 HP and 100 TQ. As a BRZ fan, is that something to celebrate? Maybe...I just don't think it's worthy of getting all crazy about.

Again - don't get me wrong - I love the BRZ and I was happy to see just how close it was in this competition. And I like it enough to plop down $30k (when all said and done) to get one. But I wouldn't want to get in a debate with some Mustang guys about which is the better performing car.

LOVE Gotta Have it Green!!! Looks so much better in person than in photos, it's a hard color to take an accurate pic of. Looks especially good on Boss.

i just like to know the facts for myself, to me knowing that iw ould be spending around 1000-1400 per tire change on the mustang vs 500 dollar tire change on the brz/frs/gt86 is exciting to me, that means i can have 2-3 times as much fun for the same price...

To me this video just proves what we've been saying all along, and what this car was built around: numbers don't matter. Both drivers in the video clearly preferred driving the BRZ over the Mustang, despite the added power of the Mustang. If you just ignore what they are saying about the 2 cars and pay attention to their body language and the way they are saying things, it's obvious which car they are having more fun in.

That is not a tight track. Most impressive. GO BRZ, GO! But how does the review conclude? Quite nicely, actually.... :happy0180:
Actually, this is Streets of Willow Springs. It is a tight track. It has the lowest average speed of any track in California, save Horse Thief Mile.

Regardless, lets not forget the tire disparity. Prius ECO tires vs the Mustang's optional summer tires.

I have no doubt both cars can run faster; in the 1:27 range for the BRZ with proper summer (street) tires in OEM sizes.

That's not true. Corvette, CTS-V, Cobalt SS, Viper, Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca...
Haven't really read much about the ZL1 yet, other than Lingenfelter got it up to 200mph+, and the new 662hp Shelby which is just nuts. And in 2014 we supposedly are getting a smaller Mustang with IRS.

The BRZ is just a great car on lower speed courses, and rightfully so. It has a superior suspension and chassis for that application. I don't think the V6 Mustang is a bad car, but I'd kick myself every day that I didn't drop the extra money for the GT if I could have.

It's a BRZ win. Just listening to the way the reviewers spoke about the BRZ vs. the numerous minor gripes of the Mustang told me right away. If you care about maximum performance regardless of driving feel or modern suspension setup, go ahead and get the Mustang. The horsepower overcomes it's glaring shortcomings. If you want the most enjoyable time behind the wheel regardless of outright performance, get the BRZ.

It's a similar reason I'm choosing not to lease another Audi S4. The S4 has BLISTERING performance compared to the BRZ. I mean, absolutely incredible. They dyno stock at 330AWHP, 3hp less than what Audi rates it at the flywheel. 0-60 in 4.9sec and an electronically limited top speed of 155mph. (I'm also paying about the same monthly payment as I would the BRZ, but I work for Audi so you wouldn't get the same deal, sorry) But it's a big 3700lb saloon that with gobs of power, all-wheel-drive, and massive grippy tires, practically drives itself. Sure it's fun, but I feel disconnected and I want something with more driver involvement to develop my skills with.

is it me or did the mustang beat up the brz. from the comments you would think the mustang lost the race. i was expecting the mustang to beat it in a 1/4 mile but on the track, wow what a disappointment. do you guys realize what 1.5 seconds on a racetrack is? that's a couple car lengths if not a couple turns ahead.

and i was looking at truecar.com and a stock v6 mustang with the performance package is 23k. now the premium v6 that comes with leather seats and such with the performance package is 28k so its a pretty good bargain. i never considered the mustang but that v6 stang is pretty bad ass. and i also think the u can get brembos on the stang.

idk i really want to test drive the fr-s but the stang looks like a nice option.

Yeah that's similar to how I felt about my STI. Gone now.
