thats not a good way to look at it. breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer in women. the only reason that it is "relatively minor" is because of the awareness provided. annual screenings and gene receptor tests and such allow us to be proactive and catch the disease in the early process.

Correlation does not imply causation. How do we know heart disease, copd, and diabetes haven't always been more deadly than breast cancer? Also, with the advances in medical imaging and overall science, we have no way of knowing if the donations have contributed at all to a decline in mortality, or if it was just medical advances. Further, as you note, people eat more and keep smoking. It wasn't all that long ago that cigarettes were advertised as having health benefits. The rise of heart disease, copd, and diabetes are completely independent of any decline of breast cancer as killers.

well i happen to have been a medical imager for years and am currently a radiation therapist. these are areas im fairly familiar with. i dont care enough to get into it but it doesnt matter if heart disease has always been more lethal. what matters is how effective your dollars are.

Well there you have it. You know better than most how much better imaging is today vs. 10-20 years ago. And you're right, what matters is how effective donations are. So why would someone donate to an organization where only 15 cents of every dollar goes towards research?

well thats one foundation. not what breast cancer gets but do you know how much those other foundations give? if not, that number means nothing. id also like to see where that information came from.
