On Subaru motors, they have a 2 stage cam system to open the valves up quicker...it is called AVCS or Dual AVCS ..Single AVCS is for the Intake cams. DUAL AVCS is for both intake/exhaust cams.

From WIKI:
The active valve control system (AVCS) is an automobile variable valve timing technology used by Subaru. It varies the timing of the intake valves by using hydraulic oil pressure to rotate the camshaft in order to provide optimal air flow in and out of the engine. The system is closed loop using camshaft sensors, crankshaft sensors, air flow meter, throttle position as well as oxygen sensors and/or Air-Fuel ratio sensors in order to calculate engine load. The ECU is programmed to operate control valves that adjust the delivery of the hydraulic pressure in order to move the camshaft into the position that will provide the engine with the best performance while minding emissions standards.
Dual AVCS is also found on Japanese Spec engines, although a complete list of the engines with Dual AVCS has yet to be compiled.
In Essence, Subaru did not Aggressively TUNE the AVCS Crossover point,it is kinda flat, most likely for emission reasons. In most Tuning Applications for Subaru: Cobb, TXS, Element, AEM and even the factory ECU...there is a more aggressive map qualities that allow the AVCS to be more aggressively tuned...therefore: eliminating or at least improving that Dead Spot.. Hope that answers your question. sorry it took so long to get back to you.. Any more questions.. LMK.

Well I had a great hour with one in the showroom last night and can confirm there is plenty of headroom for my 6 height
Also my 5'4 misses can drive with the seat forward with me sitting in the back seat

It will never happen though

She squeezed into the back and I was quite far back just to gave her an inch or too and I could drive also
Seats are well shaped in the back the trick being you must raise the seat height to stop crushing the rear seat passengers as you slide it back

When I did my head test there is plenty of seat height adjustment

Car is fantastic
