I hear you. I sold my 1jz jdm Supra last summer in anticipation of this. If I still had it and compared the two on one day, well even the mild by Supra standards ~300whp would be tough to overcome.

But I'm looking at long term mod value like this:

By everything we've heard plain stock is awesome. So no mods will be fine for a while.

Cutting weight on the Supra was tough, stock BRZ is ~400 lbs lighter than the gutted Supra.

Bumping the BRZ to the same power will be incredible, not even counting handling gains from slightly wider and stickier rubber.

BRZ power will be cheaper than Supra weightloss.

I have nothing to complain about it (except for some interior personal nit picks) since I saw it in person, and since they priced it fairly.
So which color, trim are you getting at what dealership. LOL

I thought that you would be spoiled knowing which cars you have driven in the past. I have a feeling that this is a great beginners sports car.

Lurking the CL website, I've seen very nice restored 240Zs, 260Zs. Tempting too because they are just soo sexy. (but yeah I know, reliability, warranty, yada yada yada).

Silver, manual, stripper, next year. Plan was always 18 months after launch. I've been here since 2009 and one more year won't kill me...

No, factory 'stripped'. Meaning not a single option. Trying to be cheap, not expensive. My perfect car would be a BRZ with the FR-S' content level (except keep the HIDs), JDM low grade all black interior and the JDM 16" wheels.

Weird?

I personally would have opted for the $2000 bump for the seat surfaces, yada yada yada but I still don't know how the interior knobs feel like on the cheaper AC unit. Can i live with it? not sure.

The way those earthquakes are rolling in, the wait might not kill you but...!

I still can't get over the time display in all the models... That is the ugliest shit ever. I will definitely pay to get that switched out the earliest I see something that beautifies it.

I'm only in Richmond ~9 hours a day for work so statistically I'm 62.5% safe from earthquake destruction. Aw crap, then I won't have a job. But on the other hand there may be some cheap water damaged exotics available. Heh...

Yea, i don't doubt for a second the BRZ is an awesome chassis to start from. I just don't know how much i want to put in this car money-wise. I'm also worried there's not much headroom left in this motor for additional power without expensive Forced induction. What will Intake/exhaust/headers on this motor give you? 15-20 hp?

I honestly think this exact car, with 250hp and slightly wider tires will take it to where i want it

I've been tempted to get a early 2000's 911 a few times....For what they are and how much they cost new, they're relatively reliable, but you need to bank big money for some random repairs.

I've also thought of finding an S14(240sx) again, and building her up.

Part of plan to wait is to keep an eye on power development. I haven't had a supercharged car yet, and that will probably be the FI path I take if they get develloped. A torquey 250 is what I want to see. I'm also curious about if the FA and FB can be frankensteined together like some of the Subie guys have done with various EJ configs. An FA with the FB's bore would give 2.4l, with I/e/h + cams probably over 250 all motor. But I have to wait for others to experiment first...

They VARY...a 2001 carrera(no turbo), i've seen as low as $28,000. A turbo of similar age can easily fetch 40,000-50,000

Porsches are strange..yes they obviously depreciate as they age, like anything else...but It seems mileage dictates the used porsche market more than age..something i've not seen in other cars, Its the territory of "exotics".

The torque is definitely what I'd like to see improved. I don't mind the horsepower at all. I mean I definitely wouldn't complain if it had more but the torque numbers have always bothered me a bit. To me I find whenever I drive a new vehicle I notice the torque a lot more than the HP but people seem so HP-obsessed. Hoping when I test drive this thing I won't notice the lack of torque as much as I think I will. The reviews haven't been too harsh on it which I take as a really good sign.
