Most likely they simply did not follow protocols (I know the SWEAR they did) and got it in a much more conventional manner (cut, mouth, eyes, etc). I remember seeing pictures of all kinds of "professionals" during the SARS scare that had masks on upside down, with a strap cut off, with holes poked in them (for their smokes?) and one that was even on sideways! If this type of PPE is used incorrectly it just becomes a funnel and INCREASES your exposure. Don't know where you got the quote where the CDC says about the 3 foot aspect. This is from their documents: "Ebola is not spread through the air or by water, or in general, by food. However, in Africa, Ebola may be spread as a result of handling bushmeat (wild animals hunted for food) and contact with infected bats. There is no evidence that mosquitos or other insects can transmit Ebola virus. Only mammals (for example, humans, bats, monkeys, and apes) have shown the ability to become infected with and spread Ebola virus."

Ignoring that you must have mistyped between the 3 and 7, your lack of understanding of evolution and mutation is very evident here. To delve into the science a bit more, the ebola virus infects the cells that line your blood vessels via receptors that are unique to those types of cells. Hence why, in the advanced stages, you bleed profusely as the blood vessel walls disintegrate as the new ebola quite literally explodes out of the host cell. (which causes hemorrhage). The receptors for aviolar (lung lining) cells are different, enough so that ebola cannot easily infect them through the virus itself just being inhaled. Mucus and bodily fluids are still required for transport. Pure ebola virus will not survive very long in air. Suffice it to say, ebola would have to mutate in such a way to fundamentally change the way it infects cells. Mutation is driven by two things--random mutation and environmental pressure. Environmental pressure, aka darwinism/evolution, even with a large population, takes time to result in a fundamental change. The chances of ebola making that sudden leap through evolution are, for all intents and purposes, impossible. In the case of random mutation, of course anything is possible. "But the flu mutates and changes every year!" some would say. Yes, it does, through random mutation, but that mutation does not fundamentally change how the virus infects cells. So the chances of that happening are as likely as my stomach changing from producing hydrochloric acid to sulfuric acid. As it stands now, the virus will not become airborne. There isn't environmental reason to, and random mutation is just as unlikely. Quote:
As far as the "3 feet" rule, most spray from sneezes and coughs, on average, travels no more than 3 feet. And no, you don't know what "Airborne" is, plainly. Now please do us all a favor and go hunker down and wait for this to blow over. Your misinformation does nothing but cause fear. *micdrop* |

Been threatening to start riding to work. At 8 miles I really have no excuse. Used to do 150 a week. Still have the same bike!
