The "fear monger press" - They want to sell news and this sells! The "conspiracy theory crowd" - It is all a plan for world domination by Russia/China/US/terrorists The "it's OK crowd" - Nothing to see here just move along The "Government" - What does the voting public WANT us to say? The "Scientists" - Boy we are going to need a lot more money to study this The "doctors" - We don't know squat at this point. Let's just leave that up to everybody above to deal with! No matter what your opinion is on the subject you can find SOMETHING in writing to support it! This makes it all the current info questionable. Hollywood has done a great job of presenting this type of thing as an end of the world event that escalates at a rapid pace! If this was in fact the case then Africa would be a continent full of corpses by now and the nukes would be headed for Texas as we sit here! Has this sort of thing happened before? Yes Will there be fatalities? Yes Can it spread? Possibly Will it wipe out civilization as we know it? NO

I find it very interesting reading all your comments how most of you have the mentality of absolutes. Someone who isn't making a conscious effort to prepare does not give a sh**. Somebody who is taking precautions is a paranoid fear monger.
While I'm not letting it occupy my mind every winding second of the day, I have begun to make small preparations should a serious incident occur. I've been adding the occasional canned good to my grocery shopping as well as stocked up on hygienic products such as disinfecting wipes, hand sanitizer, etc. I've also began to increase my frequency in purchasing ammo. Why? Because you can never have enough ammo. While I'm not shutting myself out from the world I have made a conscious decision not to go out to crowded areas as much. I'll still go have dinner with my girlfriend and friends and activities like such. I'm just not in any hurry to go out to bars or sports games or anything of that sort as of now. Many of you who have chimed in saying people are overreacting are on the other side of the country. It's not the end of the world, but I'd like to be prepared should anything occur especially since I live in Dallas. |

You do realize that people were vaccinated for small pox up until a few decades ago. Small pox vaccinated people can be easily identified by a circular scar at the shoulder. Do you want to know why we are not vaccinated to small pox anymore? ( you can still get vaccinated voluntarily) Because its NOT needed. This entire Ebola virus scare has started because of complacency. I never advocate complacency. BUT fear mongering is not helpful, its not educational. Education. Ebola is not as easy to contract as you may think. Because of how relatively difficult it is to contract, the CDC was complacent in its duties. They should have quaranteed many people. But they didn't. Look, the liberal media broadcasted the name and location of the first and subsequent patients. People in DIRECT contact with the patients are and were allowed unrestricted activities (within reason). I'm not saying Ebola isn't a serious virus. It obviously is. What I am saying is: All this fear mongering, about an epidemic, martial law ... ETC is not helpful. And if such fears are not addressed, can lead to a severe panic and rioting. Like stocking up on food/water, ammunition to protect the food/water you are stocking? or are you afraid of zombies? Irrational fears and actions are a path down a slippery slope.

That was over 100 years ago though. I feel like we might do better this time. And it wouldn't be a full scale invasion so much as minor raids on individual households and storage areas.

So for funsies: what would happen if a water processing plant or whatever it's called contracted ebola and died on the job, fell into the water basin or something. How much havoc could that single decomposing corpse cause?

Even better. Most of Canada's population is pretty close to the border, whereas most of ours is not. We could afford to lose a large amount of area without actually losing any real capability; Canada couldn't. That would tie their manning up having to secure those areas. A few wind farmers might be captured, but sometimes sacrifices need to be made.
