High-flow cat on the front pipe, and 3" piping... these are going to contribute significantly to volume. I'm hoping my relatively quiet P&L catback and stock FP will keep the OFH to reasonable levels.

Huge leap from stock to stage 1, smaller leap from stage 1 to 2. Love it though. Feels like the motor was born to run like this.

Really? I thought it would be a bigger leap from stage 1 to stage 2
I have yet to install my OFH and flash to stage 2 tho

Judging by this 190ish whp seems like one would notice a decent bump in power compared to just a stage 1 tune

Just curious really

It actually sounded really nice before the header, I was quite happy with it, but after the header it really is obnoxious. Of course it doesn't help that I'm so giddy from the performance gain that I'm driving it WOT from stoplight to stoplight.

I wish the sales team at Vishnu would have told me these things when I asked for advise prior to purchase. They nudged me towards the 3" because I was considering the vortec sc in the near future.

I must say, as much as I am a fan of this stuff I completely disagree. I had the stock header, a catless front pipe, and TRD catback and it was FAR QUIETER than my current catted front pipe with OFH and TRD catback.

The header itself made all the difference for me. It does sound great, but by golly she is loud.

I'm running the modified stock intake, OFH, OFT and E85 and it's nice and quiet. The OFH only increased the sound at WOT and when I start it in the garage when it's cold for a sec.
Only saying this for anyone thinking that the OFH makes the car loud that is running stock everything else. As long as you keep the exhaust stock it's nice and quiet.

Pretty sure shiv himself have shown that there isn't much to be gained after the OFH with regards to other bits of the exhausts so pointing the finger does seem a bit lame. I would probably advise the same if you must have a catback and is going SC after.

I wonder what the difference is when I run the OFH with stock everything and not being loud at all.

I kind of get what he's saying, even if I don't agree.

Stage 1 already decreases the torque dip, so when you flash stage 2 it's not as noticeable.

My opinion, stage 2 feels waaaayyyy better than 1. More low end torque and power. Now, I downshift less when trying to pass on highways.

Not really finger pointing. I ultimately made the decision of what to purchase. Just commenting that I wish the folks answering the sales emails were as knowledgable as the folks who visit the forum. Maybe my comment will make its way back to the sales team and the next person who asks will get a little more warning about the volume.

I dunno man. If you said vortech sc then they nudged your correctly to get 3" piping. As far as buying a header, replacing the primary cat and increasing the pipe diameter sized closest to the engine... What did you think was going to happen to the volume? If you want to fix the problem put your stock cat back on or get the q300.

I'm sorry you feel that the sales team misinformed you. I do think a 3.0" exhaust is the ideal fit if you are planning on going with the Vortech SC. It will provide more power than a 2.5" exhaust. At the expense of exhaust loudness of course. But as we are seeing in this thread, perceived loudness is subjective. There are options though as any decent muffler shop will be able to add a secondary resonator to your mid pipe to quiet things down a bit.

Unfortunately, we are dealing with a 4 cylinder motor which will never sound that terrific (compared to an 6 or 8 cylinder) so different exhaust combinations will manage the inherent compromise differently. And different people like different things. Myself, I tend to like things quiet. That is the reason I keep the factory front pipe in my FRS. I also have an OFH and a custom single tip exhaust (with large Magnaflow muffler). The sound is perfectly fine but coming from BMWs and Porsches, I would never say that it's anymore more than mildly pleasing. But certainly a lot better sounding that other cars I've heard running no cats, bullet style muffler, etc,.

Regards,
shiv
