Well, 5mm spacer and about -2° camber got the 17x9's on with the 245/40's. No rubbing but very little room between the tires/bags and tires/fender. I definitely can't dump the bags completely. But, it's drivable for now and I'll order some narrower tires.

Great work Jyn and Diirk. Lots of good info in this thread. Love the V2 mount job.
Referencing the frsproject calculator... I've found running wheel/tire simulations for Airlift bag fitment needs to be <255mm distance from the Front fender boundary in the calculator. If you drag your cursor to the inner most edge of the wheel/tire(whichever is inset more) and jot down the X: value (eg: 285mm) and subtract the X: value of the fender edge (eg:30mm), you get the distance from the inner fender to the inside furthest point of your wheel/tire. The gentleman from a previous post was running a 17x9et48 wheel with 245/40 and making contact with his bags. His measurement from the calculator was 258mm. Diirk's current setup with a 5mm spacer yields a dimension of 255 just barely clearing his bags. Going to a narrower tire would help slam without bag contact. I know this isnt real world and this method of getting dimensions and measurements is just to get someone in the ballpark. Im trying to fit 19x9.5et35 on 215/35 and according to the calculator I should be fine to comfortably fit bags with a dimension of 248mm. Hope this helps somebody. |

Yeah the bag creates less clearance so that's something that needs to be considered. I wouldn't worry about your tire size, I run 205 and 215 stretched on 8.5 and 9.5 wheels. Knock on wood, but I haven't had issues in 2+ years.
Also, another installation pic.

Thanks for the pic Jyn. I like your setup. It was the inspiration for my build, although I have a long ways to go. Do you have any more pics of your setup? The back of it, or it sitting in the spare tire well?
Thanks for all the help

So, to update for my config. I actually seem to be rubbing the bags a little more with the 225/45-17's then with the 245/40's. I'm going to need to reduce the camber some for now. I'll test fit with a 10mm spacer and see if that fixes it. I wish someone had a 7 or 8mm spacer...lol I have to say that I'm really surprised by this. I have a lot more space on the fender side, but it seems to be less on the bag side. I wonder if the slightly higher sidewall is the reason. I was really expecting somewhere in the neighborhood of a half in of space between the tire and bag.

Just an update. Going to be changing the trunk configuration a little.
Ordered more fittings and an additional water trap. Also ordered fittings to install an air tool coupler. Finally, I ordered some extra air line and a couple inline PTC's, to create an emergency roadside kit.

I have an Airlift V2 management system and after a couple nights in the garage, I'm losing air in the tank and my compressor kicks on when I start up the car, is this normal? The actual 4 bags aren't losing air. If you're familiar with the remote, it's the number at the bottom, usually sits at 150ish and after a couple days it decreases and has to fill back up for a few mins during startup

I'd suggest you check your fittings for leaks if you're loosing a lot more. But also consider that with the temperature changes coming along, the pressure will also be affected. With that said, Air Lift provides specific torque info for the fittings. I've found that that makes a difference.

Is that for bags or for tanks? I normally lose ~20 PSI in my tank overnight.

I thought it was for the tank. I usually lose 2-3 psi over night from the tank and nothing from the bags.

Has anyone heard of d2 air suspension? Debating between d2 and airlift, because d2 comes with a trunk mounting board and airlift doesn't, as well as being several hundred dollars more expensive.
any adivce?

I have a general question about bag systems, but it might depend on the bag manufacturer.
They designed these kits for our cars with about stock weight of tire/wheel in mind (I'm assuming). Comparing coil-overs to bags, does anyone know how the physics work for say, adding weight to the tire/wheel combo by having a much larger wheel/tire like some of the widebody people are doing? Is the effect noticeable or negligible going from stock weight to something heavier like a 10-11" wide wheel and does this affect how much pressure(bags) or spring/damper (coils) you would need? |
