I guess I'll wait for your update before making a decision, because I really wanted the EL, but I can't ignore that dip...

This image (found here: http://counterspacegarage.com/tomei-...-frs-gt86.html ) would seem to suggest that all things equal, the UEL gets rid of the torque dip at the expense of a few hp above 5000 RPM, whereas the EL has a slightly smaller torque dip than OEM but gains a few HP vs. the UEL above 4500 RPM.

Honestly this just looks like 2 shitty headers that you shouldn't buy, uel or el.

Summary: OFH with OFT UEL tune made more top end power and had less torque dip
Note: Vehicle was also equipped with Perrin drop in filter and modified (shortened) air duct

Cheers,

When comparing performance, UEL > EL. Less obvious with E85, but still EL suffers from torque dip.

That dyno (taken with a grain of salt) ultimately factored in my decision to get the UEL vs the EL which I originally intended to buy. Will post after the install what my impressions are after initially wanting the EL.

I recall P&L's EL header was able to remove the torque dip completely when combined with a tune, so it's not a UEL-specific feature. It sounds like Tomei's design is just lacking.

I agree with your assessment of EL vs UEL in general, but I cannot say for sure about the Tomei EL design lacking since I have not been able to find other Tomei specific EL vs UEL dyno results. Since my decision was based only on Tomei vs Tomei (I got a fantastic deal ), the above referenced dyno showed a significant enough performance benefit from the UEL to persuade me to switching over to it. I have my reservations about the rumble though but we'll have to see...

Haha I decided on a completely different route, picked up a friend's used JDL EL header. Bob from Drift-Office tells me the JDL deals with the torque-dip the best over the other EL options.

This is what it sounds like with the Tomei Type 60R and Tomei joint pipe in case anyone was curious... very loud, gets even louder on load.
