Get a catted header. I have the FT86SpeedFactory catted UEL header, no tune, no CEL.

As far as smog test, I have no idea. I'm sure if you search it has been discussed in the exhaust section of the forum.

I've heard a catted UEL in person and imo it's sounds like a quieter version of the uncatted one. Not sure about the California situation though.

In CA, you will NOT pass smog with an uncatted header unless you know somone who does smogging and is willing to take a chance with (hefty) fines.

With that said, it's a fairly easy install, so you can just as well swap it out every two years with the stock header for smogging and then swap it back on.

Try unichip tuning - they don't leave footprints so you can pop it off before the dealer because it's a piggyback unit and doesn't modify any code or counters

would you think the uel header alone can void a warranty?

The unfortunate answer is the dealer can (before anyone quotes the MV act at me) void your warranty for anything they want. The law prohibits them from denying warranty repairs over aftermarket parts unless they can prove your aftermarket part directly contributed to the failure. But, much like how punching someone in the face is illegal, it doesn't mean you can't go around town doing it. Someone just has to stop you in court. It's unlikely they'd refuse a repair of your sound system over it, or paint, or axle, etc. but it depends on what their train of thought is really.

If I had a header on and I needed my dealer to do any engine work or exhaust work, I would go back to stock, bury that sh*t in my backyard and burn all the evidence until I got it back. For an oil change, it doesn't really matter if they notice because no dealership I've heard of takes notes in case you come back later, since the techs don't care. And they can't really "void" your warranty over aftermarket, they just won't fix that one issue UNDER the existing warranty.

My dealer is kinda on and off lame, so I take off my strut tower brace and harness bar if I bring it by. I just don't want to give them reasons to draw conclusions.

is it me or it sounds like way too much trouble getting a header, getting ecu flash for no CEL,then remove and restore for maintenance and smog. guess a catback is smarter option but not best. thanks though

Don't mean to discourage you - plenty of dealers are fine with this and unless you get the worst header ever or your engine is a lemon I doubt you'd have any issues. Just was trying to be realistic about the risks - anything you put on makes it a little harder to tell the dealer they should fix things. But get a header if you really want one - I'm not sure if a uel catted header would wreck your smog check. Catless exhaust systems for sure, but do some research. like I said, unichip can just be popped off before you leave for the dealer and no harm done. If you tell them you know it has a CEL and you just want an oil change / general inspection it might still be ok.

Never hurts to ask!

was wanting the revworks uel sounds perfect with stock not too quiet not too loud, honestly if i decide to get the header that would be all i put into the car nothing else so i guess that might be a little easier when dealing with dealer

Quieter than stock? I want to change my header but I am unsure if I should do catted or not. I live in Florida so smog isn't a problem but I have a nameless 5" muffler axleback so just worried on loudness

Definitely louder than stock, just quieter than the catless.

I have that axleback it's loud haha. It you do uncatted I feel like it might really scream but there's only one way to find out. Catted will still be louder than stock.
