My dad is a master mechanic and tells me all the time that turbos/FI isnt the way to go as he was always rebuilding them for customers. The bearings needa be replaced all the time according to him and even with turbos now with all the cooling still need to be dealt with. You need to be on top of things otherwise you will have problems in the future. Going FI your going to have way more things to deal with that can go wrong and always changing out oil more often etc. Checking your lines if they are good etc. Lots of things to deal with when you go FI. And honestly if you cant install the Cosworth system your self then you shouldnt be touching/modifying cars and stay FAR away from going FI. They are BOLT ONS. They require VERY little labor vs installing a turbo or super charger. If you cant even install a cat back exhaust or headers/front/over pipe you shouldnt be modifying cars. |

Well no offence but I'm a certified mechanic also and your dad better get use to turbos because everything is switching to them. I guess that means BMW Porsche Ferrari Mercedes Ford Chevrolet VW etc who are switching to them, all of their bearings are going to fail and the engines will melt. If you can install a cat back or a set of headers you can install a supercharger.

You do realize that those aren't turbo's right ?? People who do proper maintenance and use quality parts don't seem to be having issues. Quote:
With out proper maintenance, I can blow rods/bearings/pistons on a stock motor. Better tell ford to stop making the ecoboost motor.

A fool and their money are soon parted....that sums the Cosworth pricing up pretty well.

Installing an exhaust, thermostat, tune and air filter (cosworth package) is hardly the expense of an f/i install...

I guarantee you can find a shop that would do a basic supercharger install for $6000 or less (kit + labor) on a stock car with no other mods. This basic supercharger setup will easily put 210 - 230 whp down. I'd pick the supercharger without hesitation. |

stage 1.3 loud
I thought stage 1.3 was very loud as well for the hp... maybe it will make sense once their FI solution comes in Stage 2 or 3.

second, a supercharger and turbo are both...BOLT ONS as well. You take bolts off...hold said FI up..and put bolts in. Sounds like your master mechanic dad is stuck in the 80s...everything is turbo now, know why? Reliability, increased gas mileage, and power on top when needed. explain to me again how it's not the answer...

One thing that strikes me about all the Rallysport Direct videos is how much that guy seems to be enjoying the upgrades to the car, either he is an idiot or genuinely happy with these gains. He keeps smiling whenever he gets on it...

Changing just the exhaust won't give you more power. OEM exhaust is pretty much open for the NA engine. Why so many companies think they are much better than the factory? This is nonsense. By changing the exhaust, you'll get just a better sound. You can have some gains only if you go to a catless exhaust, but this is legal only in racing environments. Cosworth changed the exhaust mainly as a preparation for the FI upgrade package. The gains in stage 1 package are from the ECU tuning, the higher-flow filter and the header. I also doubt about the reliability of these gains without using a better fuel (e.g. E85) but this is another story. Whoever likes to log his car will understand the reason.
