Some will say they drove on their three season tires. Where you live in Boston I doubt you need studded tires, or 16" wheels like some of us went with. Probably just need a basic snow tire like the general altimax arctic or Firestone winterforce. I'm told the arctic claw that VIP(O'Rielly) sells is a good budget tire. If you plan on driving out on back country type roads then look for a set of 16" with 205/55/16 snow tires(studded if you choose). Just remember they don't like anything more then 65 mph.

First, Welcome to 86 Owners of New England! Congrats on your car!

Question 1 - are my turanza's ok to use for the winter - I would HIGHLY suggest getting a winter set of wheels, strictly for the winter season. There have been members that have used stock wheels for the winter, however for peace of mind and safety of other drivers, I would invest in another set of wheels.

Question 2 - anybody have a set for sale - check out our facebook group, www.facebook.com/86OwnersofNewEngland or take a look through the NE buy/sell thread. Sometimes even CraigsList has wheels for sale. Just be sure they are 5x100 wheels any other questions, feel free to post them up! Congrats again

- Philip

Good advice

Someone just posted a set of steelies w/ TPMS on the facebook group a couple days ago... IIRC they were about $400 for the set, so they would be pretty cheap "insurance".

I like General Tire Altimax Arctic and Continental Extreme Winter Contact, but you can find more opinions here:

For the sake of your loved ones and fellow drivers, PLEASE get a a set of winter tires. If this winter is going to be anything like last winter, you NEED to get a set unless you can hop on the T if there's more than a couple inches of snow on the ground.
