Depending on the goal it probably doesn't make economic sense to make a T86 handle like a Cayman. I drove a 2001 Boxster daily for 9 yrs before trading on 2013 FRS. Parts alone would cost the difference of a low mileage Cayman especially if you add hp. You will need a great speed shop to keep things in shape unless you're highly skilled in electronics not to mention everything else. At the same time Porsche dealers charge silly high prices for service. If you can DIY routine maintenance on a Porsche, mine wasn't too expensive to keep up. In nine years, I replaced the water pump, shocks, plugs, light bulbs, filters, tie rods, coolant, and oil. A speed shop replaced external air/oil separator twice, trans fluid and a few other things. My point it Porsche's hold up very well. You get a hell of a car in stock form that dealers and a few specialty shops are trained to repair. Is it more fun to drive a great car or make a good car great and enjoy driving what you built. Neither saves money, but where's the fun in that.
