Definitely yes. I get 18.3 MPG in my current car. But I'm getting the BRZ, not FRS.

I feel the same way.

Going by the EPA ratings (22/30 for manual), I'll be losing a couple of MPGs. Current car (GTI w/DSG) gets 24/33.

I currently drive a EE8 CRX VTEC as my daily. Its quite hard to find an equivalent for EPA ratings, but going by a Del sol the difference is 0.2mpg in favor of my current car.

With UK MPG ratings though the difference could be a much as 3 or 4 mpg, but I'm fully willing to forgo that to get back into a RWD car with similar performance as my current everyday car.

My 2010 Cobalt SS is rated for 22/30 MPG using 91 Octane or higher. Well, we only have 93 Octane down here. I have been averaging around 24 MPG. So, I would say the gas mileage would be the same between my car and the FR-S. The only difference is my car has 280HP and 320TQ (GM Stage 1 Turbo upgrade) versus the 200HP and 151TQ. I am not going to lie, I am going to miss the power, but I definitely will not miss the torque steer!

Did some number crunching on The US DoE's fuel economy site on all of my current/previous vehicles..

8 total vehicles, ranging from a 3-speed auto '87 Ford Escort GLS hatchback up to my current '11 Elantra, the average economy is 21.25/29.75/24.25. Compared to the BRZ's 22/30/25, it's startlingly close.

The Elantra is hands-down my best gas sipper (when my daily commute was ~80 miles, I averaged around 43mpg), but I've owned multiple vehicles with pretty much identical gas mileage. (The Escort pushed its ~2500lbs to 23/29/25 and my '06 Cobalt was 22/31/25)

It will take some getting used to, however, to select the premium pump, as all current/previous rides took regular 87 octane unleaded.

Yea well, my FR-S should be about half of what my pickup does right now, so I should see an improvement, even with switching to premium gaz!

Driving a 2008 Civic SI Sedan. I average 24 MPG on the 93 octane stuff we get here in Metro Atlanta (mostly city with some 50 mph 2 lane), so gas mileage wise will probably be a wash. I do expect my yearly fuel bill to rise because I once again have a car that is just fun to take out and drive .

current daily driver and mileage

My current daily driver flips between a 2006 Tacoma 4x4 (off road package) that gets about 20 mpg and a 2010 Prius (no off road package) that gets about 48 mpg.

I expect the FR-S to get somewhere in the middle. I don't think it will get 34 mpg (average of the two) but if it got relatively close, I'd be quite happy.

My mazdaspeed 6 is rated at 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg but really gets around 17/18 and 23 hwy.... where the FRS/BRZ gets 22 city and 30 HWY. So even a lightly modified FRS/BRZ will still save me $$$

my celica gt-s gets about 28-32 mpgs with combined driving about 34-35 highway but it was rated at 22city/30 highway

lowest gas mileage i saw was 19 mpg i spent the day at a circuit and chewed through 2 sets of tires 19 mpg racing isnt bad at all

i also average about 29-30 mpgs doing over 90 on the freeway

its hard to make this car get bad gas mileage, im a very spirited driver i go through tires about every 19,000-25,000 miles

It might match the 29mpg combined I get but the added cost of premium gas will still make it more expensive. I'm waiting to see real world numbers on a broken-in car.
