The best way to learn is a proper F&F montage.

Go to a local autocross as a spectator. Introduce yourself to lots of drivers. Tell them you're a total newbie and want to get into the sport to become a better driver.

The rest should take care of itself. Most regions and organizations are full of nice people who will be all too happy to point you in the right direction. Also it doesn't matter if you suck. Tons of people do! Keep at it and listen to feedback from the fast drivers and you'll get better.

Go to an autocross. It's pretty cheap for a day with Brandywine Motorsports Club here in Delaware. The last autocross of the year is next weekend, October 11. Usually the whole day is only $25. I think this last event is more, maybe $35 or $50. But its a great way to start to learn about car control.

I am in Wilmington. If you ever want to grab a beer or a cup of coffee and talk cars, PM me. I have some autocross and track experience and have driven a variety of sporty and boring cars for the past 15 years.

If we had to answer your question in one sentence, this would be it.
