Thumbs down Question about animated avatars and signatures

This is a question on forum policy. I am not attempting to discuss my ban situation specifically, just the rule under which someone may be banned.

Where is it stated that animated avatars and sigs are not allowed? From what I read on the top of each forum:

"Post Reporting and Account Rules
We cannot possibly read every single post made on the forum but we do review every single reported post. Please REPORT ( - Icon located in the bottom left corner of every post ) any posts you think are violating the forum rules
Here are some basic rules to keep this forum a fun place for everyone.

1) Respect. By far the most important rule here. Basic rules of real life apply here - show each other respect and you will get respect as well. Don't bash someone else here because you feel like it. Disrespectful, derogatory or insulting attitudes or remarks will not be tolerated. This applies to all corners of the site - including posts, profile visitor messages, and thread tags.

2) Search. These forums tend to accumulate knowledge, and so when you have a question do a simple search first. Alot of times, the best answers will be found in old threads that have gone over the topic in detail. If you can't find your answer or are still unclear, then by all means don't be afraid and post your question.
---PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING---

3) Disagree, don't attack. Disagree on topics, but try to leave it at that. Just because you don't like someones opinion on the car's engine, doesn't mean you should call him and his mother all sorts of names. Debates are always welcome, but don't go out of your way to insult and flame someone. Please consider if you would say to someone's face the same thing you are posting.

4) Help. Be helpful, we are all probably here because of a question and people will go out of their way to help you. Try to do the same if you have the answer to a question posted. True enthusiasts are helpful to others, noob or veteran alike. If you think not telling others about some technical info you have will make you and your car unique and prefer to be unique rather than share this information, then this forum is not for you. Help each other with questions and answers and I guarantee you, one day it will pay you back on here.

5) Offtopic in Offtopic forum. Well, this should be self explanatory.

6) Make suggestions in the suggestions forum. We promise to do our best to accomodate your suggestions. We've made so many changes around here already based on people's feedback and we love doing it, its part of the fun for us !

7) Post in the correct forum this is especially important for our new members. Our community is divided into different forums for a reason, it helps to keep the posts organized and on-topic. If you have a post asking a question about purchasing a new car, or what option to get, etc, please post in the New Car section not in the photo gallery for example. This will help ensure you get the correct and meaningful answers to your question and will keep the site more focused for our veteran users.

* New users must make a few responses to existing threads before receiving the ability to make new topics.

8) No Commercial Posts We have very strict Anti-spam policies here and we will be deleting posts/banning users without notice when the post is a commercial post made by a non community sponsor. If you happen to see these types of posts on the forum, we urge you to report these members to us. Groupbuys may only be posted by or on behalf of a site sponsor.

9) CLASSIFIEDS RULES.
NO THREAD CRAPPING - DO NOT go into a member's for sale thread and post off-topic or critical comments or try to sell your own item in another member's classifieds threads. DO NOT go into a sponsor's classifieds thread and do the same. These threads are protected from any mention of other competing products, complaints, criticisms. There is a vendors' feedback forum for such purposes.

10) NO POLITICS or GUN DISCUSSIONS.

11) NO NSFW (Not-Safe-For-Work) AVATARS or SIGNATURES.

12) NO NUDITY ALLOWED.

13) DOUBLE / SECONDARY ACCOUNTS ARE NOT ALLOWED.
Only one account is allowed per member.

14) BANNED MEMBERS are not open to discussion. Bans are always undertaken with justification and are not open to public discussion. Any threads/posts discussing bans will be removed.

15) SPONSORS have additional sponsorship rules they must abide by. Please review these Sponsor Rules Here.

Any vendors interested in sponsorship please contact me for details.
"

Also..I see you are not supposed to discuss specific banned members, but are we really not allowed to discuss bans and duration/cause in general???

@Hachiroku

I've never banned for this nor do I know if a rule is written for it somewhere.

Regardless of whether it is a bannable offense, I find animated avatars and signatures to be very annoying. I don't want to have to load 10 people's animated gifs everytime I open a thread.

pretty sure an animated gif uses a negligible amount of system resources to load, not sure what kind of computer you are running that would struggle loading 5-10 gifs and slow down your scrolling speed or somehow otherwise distract you.

But that is a personal opinion anyway..my question is where is it written in the rules of this forum that they are not only not permitted, but a banable offense.

If you're on mobile it takes time and bandwidth to load all the gifs, and it messes up scaling of the page.

You have read the rules, you have quoted the rules, you know it isn't in the rules. There is, however, forum etiquette and having a larger or very long (secs) animated GIF in your signature that can easily be over 1 meg to load is very annoying. Lots of animated GIFs can definitely slow down a browser as well.

This could be a problem here, I understand this. I don't understand why uploading an image in .GIF format is even allowed at all if this is a concern. I know not all GIF images are animated but still could eliminate the issue with minimal negative impact.

I understand etiquette, but there is a distinct difference in etiquette and rules where one should only be held accountable to a certain degree for each. I agree rules are law and should have consequences if broken, and I have no problem following the rules of a forum otherwise I wouldn't bother using it. My problem is being reprimanded over something without any warning that it would be unacceptable.

I know they can't make a rule for everything someone could do here..for example, I don't think it's in the "rules" that you will be banned if you were some kind of hacker and modified people's posts or changed everyone's avatars to an ad or something, but that's still obviously something the person would be IP banned for. We are talking about a forum avatar though here, so let's keep the conversation in context.

Also, I am trying to locate another set of rules that I wasn't aware of, maybe a more detailed one besides the ones on the top of each forum. Or perhaps some rules that appear when you are signing up initially. My goal is to make sure things are clear for everyone, not to rabble rouse or make rhetorical questions with no positive outcome.

Technically anything can result in a ban. There is no HR department here. This is not a public service.

Just saying.
