Managed to solo the weekly L22 Heroic Strike against Phogoth in the Venus Summoning Pits last night... I'm L24 with only Blue gear so far. He REALLY lays on the minions... Those buffed wizards are a PITA. Anyways, I had to do the cheese method- peek through the arena door, lay some damage, pull back to the entrance and recoup, rinse repeat. I think it took maybe 30 min. As I was almost finished with the first attempt, Phogoth was at 0.0001 health (no more visible health bar) where he could have died from a stern gaze... Of course as I was retreating through the entry door for the last time with a sliver of red health, I hit the edge of the door frame running backwards and they popped me. I almost threw the controller, lol...

After farming the treasure cave for way too long I agree 100% with this statement. Seems to work well from 20-24 but after that it's just tons of blues that are worse than the gear you already have.

Working on hitting Vanguard rank 2 so I can just buy things I actually want instead. Have about 140 marks and ~250 reputation to go. Between that and Xur I'm hoping to have all purple gear with an exotic hunter helmet by the end of the week.

If we can schedule an evening or a weekend day or something I'd be up for grouping together for an extended raid. I'm no phenom hero but I can certainly hold my own. We can read up on the raid and get an idea of what to expect so we're not experimenting the entire time.

Murdercave was great, I shot from L21 to 24 in about 2 hours. I'm on the cusp of 25 now.

I feel like way more people are playing this on PS4 than X1. I think that may be my main obstacle to beating the VoG.

I used to manage a gamestop. So i have plenty of gamer friends.

VoG isn't hard at all. I think we got to the 4th boss in ~3 hours. 1 hour of it was waiting for this dude who couldn't jump.

More people have a ps4, and xbox 1 doesn't have all the content the ps4 has (They will next year).

Like monte carlo. Monte Carlo isn't on xbox 1, and then there is the exodus blue map in pvp.

Its not a lot, and defintely not a game breaker. But for gamers, expecially elitests, little things like that sway purchases.

It was pretty epic. 5 of us are on this platform waiting for this guy to make a jump (In VoG, if you die the party has to wait 30 seconds before they can ressurect you.) He died a lot. so dying 2 times is at least ~2 minutes of my life wasted.

Towards the end we played R Kelley's "I believe I can Fly" for motivation in our party chat.

I'm level 22 and would really like some people to show me the ropes. Once I switched over to Light for progress it seems like things really slowed down for me and it's mostly because I go solo. I thought doing bounties in the crucible were my best bet but it's very little progress. I'm guessing strikes or daily/weekly challenges are where it's at.

I could be lvl 28 right now... If I wanted to buy those stupid gauntlets from the Nine vendor.

The best way to level up is to grind your faction rep to lvl 2 and buy legendary gear. (The Future war Cult, New monarchy, and dead orbit are the easiest to level up)

Don't be all excited over exotics. I.E. "I Have 23 strange coins! I am going to buy an exotic weapon from the nine vendor. YAY!"

Unless its a Primary weapon, in my opinion, do NOT buy an exotic weapon.
Here is my reasoning: Speical and Heavy weapons have damage types (Arc, Fire, and Void). Those damage types do extra damage to their respective shield types. Primary weapons do not have a damage type, so I feel that your primary needs all the love it can get for the best dps (and its easier to get ammo for your primary).

You can only equip one exotic armor at a time (you cannot have an exotic chest and Arm for example)
You can only equip one exotic weapon at a time (you cannot have an exotic primary and an exotic heavy equiped at the same time).

Then there are people that say "Whatever, i'll just switch my primary and exotic weapon out when I need one or the other."
This logic is ignorant. For the best DPS, this is a HORRIBLE idea.

Here is why: Lets say you have a nice exoitc primary you like and you are using it throughout the mission. You have a legendary heavy equiped (lets say rocket launcher to clear out trash mobs), but when you get to the boss you want to use your machine gun for the single target DPS. You feel that this is a great idea! Your heavy ammo is full and your exotic machine gun is beast! So you switch your primary to a legendary auto rifle, and you switch your legendary to your exotic machine gun. WTF! I only have 30 rounds?!

Now this can be solved by buying the ammo packs from the gunsmith, BUT I am giving this advice to a lvl 20 wanting to get up in levels the most efficient way.

Switching out exotics for situational use will yeild the highest DPS, but it is expensive in consumables. Picking an exotic primary as your first exotic weapon is the fastest way to better dps, which leads to completing missions easier, which leads to more strange coins/motes which leads to more exotic weapons/armor, which leads to situational swapping, which leads to needing to buy the consumables, and finally spending your glimmer on something other than the cryptarch.

this is just my logic.

PS: Buy your legendary armor FIRST. Weapons do not have light scores and thus will not increase your Light level.

Also for my PS4 bretheren. If you are not farming dust palace... You are WRONG!

The legedary armor sets and exotic weapons can only be found in the dust palace strike.

I'll try to remember to add you tonight, I play most evenings and weekends and I'm lvl25 so far, close to 26.

tahdizzle has good advice if you want to grind out for Crucible marks. I'm less of a crucible player (prefer PVE) so I'm collecting Vanguard marks instead.

You can get Vanguard marks from Public events or doing the Strike playlist.

You get Vanguard rep by doing bounties and patrol missions.

From 20-24 a good place for decent blues and the odd purple is farming the Russian treasure cave, but it's boring as hell. After 24 you need purples so Vanguard/Crucible marks are the way to go.
