Any pics? ~ RS3 225/45 on RPF1 17x9 +35

I think I have nailed down my wheel & tire decision and would like to see what it looks like.

For DD and occasional track duty.

9" instead of 8" - Mainly for appearance and looks. I love the flatter and slightly concave spokes than the bubbly convex spokes on the 8". Also, I may play with 245 size in the future, so 9" gives me versatility.

225 - Mainly because it is much lighter (39.2lbs total weight with RS3), which is a good 2.2lbs lighter than stock!), better acceleration and speed on the straights. Those meaty 245 are nice, but it may scrub top speeds and they are also heavy. But, I will play with that 245 size in the future too.

RS3 - Mainly because it is the lightest of the top four street tires I am interested in (RS3, ZII, RE11A, AD08R). I live in SoCal anyway, so rain isn't a top concern. ZII get greasy after a couple laps. RE11A are good, especially in the rain, but are too heavy. AD0R are great, but a tad heavier than RS3. RS3 is the lightest, but gets consumed the quickest. So my first chose will be RS3, with a 2nd place to AD0R and 3rd choice to ZII.

..so, just looking for pics of this particular and exact wheel/tire setup on an 86.

Thanks!

You may also consider 235 section width on a 9" wide wheel. Won't be super stretched (and frankly better all-round than a 225), and still won't be a big penalty on either weight or acceleration.

235/40-17 Falken RT615 on 17x9" +35 Weds Sport TC105N:

Found 1 member that's running this particular setup (wish there were more).

2.2-2.4lbs weight reduction per wheel/tire! ...and they look gorgeous too

Ted is now running 255s.

I should add, with my RE30 17x8" and the above 235 tires, my wheel + tire setup weighed less than stock, around 39lbs for the setup.

Any pics? ~ RS3 225/45 on RPF1 17x9 +35

I have run 235/40/17 and 225/45/17 RS3s on 17x9 +35 TC105n at the same tracks within a few months. My car has some aero mods but it's still NA and has no power mods other than a base Ecutek tune.

225:
Lighter
Faster acceleration
Less grip
Less heat capacity

235:
Heavier
Slower acceleration
More grip
More heat capacity

The 235s are more beginner friendly. They're more difficult to overheat and provide more absolute grip. I ran 235s for about 7 track days and when I switched back to 225, with my driving style my front tires would overheat after 5-6 laps and I'd get understeer. I realized I was relying too much on sheer grip and steering input to go around slow, tight corners (SoW CCW). I got some instruction, and now I use the throttle to help rotate the car around those corners, while using less steering —still learning!

If I were you, I'd run a 245/40/17 BFG G-Force Rivals. Thats what I'm running on my WedsSport tc105n 17x9 +35's.

Honestly acceleration is about the same asa when I had stock wheels. It might feel slower because you're actually gripping to the ground.

+ 245/40 on a 17x9 wheel is perfect. You need minimal camber adjustments and there is little to no rubbing at all.

I'll snap some pictures when I get home :3

245's are more ideal on a 9" wheel, but 225 isn't unsafe by any means. Being slightly stretched means it will break away more suddenly at the limit though.
