Lol, my current car setup is perfect according to you. . 2014 4runner for me when I am dropping my kids. BRZ as backup when I am not dropping or picking my kids up. Prius for my wife and when I am out on business travel.

Research? Seriously? All of us have the ability to change our minds. One can research to death and make a purchase based on all available info at the time but things do change, life circumstances, preferences e.g. Some are more fickle than others (me) and others are more 'committed' and are not as tolerant of criticisms than others.

Since I have had my car (never test drove, bought online and delivered), I have about 20 points where I eye something else as a replacement. Heck, if the process requires little effort from me, it would have been done long ago. Folks in the auto sales business are better to confirm this but I know that purpose-build sports/sporty cars are more likely to be traded in.

Much like a grand piano. Looks great in the house and perfect for the pianist. But it sure takes up a lot of floor space and if not used frequently, may eventually just turn into eye candy status. Hence, an abundance of them for sale in the used market.

Nobody buys a BRZ because they need one, it is the wrong car for every human being on the planet.

You buy it because you want one and you are A) willing to live with the compromises and/or B) Have a way of working around them.

There is no defense for the purchase of a BRZ or any sports car or almost anything beyond a station wagon. You buy what you buy because you wanted it more than you wanted to find the most rational vehicle.

That being said, if you bought a BRZ and then traded it in on something else, I'm not surprised. Good for you, it obviously isn't the car for you at this time/place/point. No need to make a federal case out of it on either side of the discussion.

We've seen the bloom come off the rose in a few of the long-term tests in the buff books as well. Initially the editors are so thrilled with the car's handling and driving feel they pay little attention to other factors. But after a few months those other factors (NVH, ride, etc.) begin to weigh more heavily and the overall assessment of the car becomes considerably more of a mixed bag. (Of course this is hardly unique to the twins -see the 370Z tests, for example. The C7 seems to have avoided this fate so far but has suffered from some reliability issues.)
