Sunday 14th I'll be at Midvaal putting in some track time.
If you'd like some 86 company, then get your butt down there...

A wonderful day mixing it with the racecars at Midvaal Raceway today.
As I said somewhere on the videos below - the slowest racecar is quicker than the fastest roadcar. And until you've been there and done that you won't believe it. The first video is a snippet from session 2 today. I'm glad that I let the hoon in the Renault racecar through on the back straight - I don't know how he didn't go farming though. And enjoy the howl and power of a full race turbo M3. Phew!! The second video is the whole of session 4. Some serious machinery there today, especially the spaceframes, and I was happy that me and my little civvy car weren't the slowest on track. Quite scary, but a lot of fun. I was on my oldest tyres again (which are now ready for the bin), so I was down on grip and sliding around a lot. But I'm pleased - despite that, and a 95kg passenger, I did a new PB of 1:24.1 I'm confident that with new tyres, and no passenger, I'll easily get into the 1:22's and maybe even 1:21's. My ultimate goal is sub 1:20. Quite depressing when compared to racecars which mostly run between 1:05 and 1:18, and I have to keep reminding myself that they weigh half what my car does...

If you're interested, I posed a question on the international forum about a short track video snippet.
I took it at Midvaal a week or so ago, and it comes from my second fastest lap. I got through that technical set of corners quite quickly, but I know that I did some things right and some wrong. I'm trying to learn about what one can see (and hear) when replaying a video, but that actually happens in an instant. I'm hungry to learn and improve my skills before I croak... LOL Feel free to comment if you want to. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...postcount=1945

Anybody going to the Historic racing meet at Zwartkops on Saturday?
If so, then let me know and maybe we can meet up. I'm taking an old mate there because he's got his old racing Anglia in his shed - still in pristine condition like he raced it in the 70's. Once every 3 months or so, he fires it up and takes it for a burn on the public roads when nobody's looking. I reckon 40 year old slicks could be quite kak today... I want to get him going again, and I'm seriously thinking of getting into historic racing myself - it looks like great fun and quite affordable.

Wish I was around to race in the 70's...
I fear most of us will be at Kyalami instead to grab a peak of the Mclaren P1. http://www.zero2turbo.com/2014/09/mc...th-africa.html Quote:

Here's a short video snippet which I cropped for a friend today.
It's an example of my 86's nannies in action (for safety reasons, I keep all my nannies on when I have a passenger in the car on the racetrack). I thought it might be interesting to share with those who aren't yet familiar with the 86's VSC and TC. In this example, you'll see and hear them both in action, but it's very quick. About mid-corner, she lets go and the nannies catch the spin and make the problem go away within about 1/4 second. This is T1 at Midvaal where you need to hold the car hard left on exit to be in position for T2. The track was very cold, dirty and slippery, and the car got away from me... Many people have bad things to say about our car's nannies. I think they're AMAZING!! [ame]http://youtu.be/nmFA9ZF2ooM[/ame]

Fish Eagle, why are you recording video with a potatoe?
lol You rite, the nannies can be handy sometimes. I prefer nana's though (as in boobies)

Yeah, yeah - fair cop. Mea culpa!! But potatoe - huh??
That's taken on my 7 year old Nokia phone, and the vids are meant to be for own use only, but I seem to be sharing my videos more and more. However, that old Nokia takes better vids than my 2 year old Samsung, so it's the lesser of two evils. But, point taken. I'm looking into something better, but not a GoPro. Nice as they are, I'm not prepared to pay that ripoff price. Just a bit awkward getting any mail-order stuff nowdays...

GoPro is not cheap but the quality speaks for itself. I'd take a 2nd hand GoPro over any other camera but not only because of the quality, the availability of spares and accessories is also a major factor.

Am I going to tell you what she bought for me? Nope. But it's not a GoPro. Wait and see. If the vids are still crap, I'll just stop uploading so my mates can't klap me anymore - so there...
