Unfortunately I've read it has problems with heat. If you think oil temps on the Twins are bad, the Z/28 supposedly hits 300 F in extended lapping. Kind of disappointing for a car that was billed as track-ready.

Also it appears most of its speed is due to the Trofeo R's that it wears.

Kind of sad... I really liked the Z/28 in principle.

300 F in extended lapping is a bit too much but I've seen 270-280 F with my LS3 motor too .. stock twins also see 290+ F, a bigger radiator should help the LS engines since they have Oem heat exchangers and water-oil oil coolers

It's more the fact that Chevy marketed it as a track-ready car. I'm sure you could mod it to make it more track durable, but that sort of defeats the purpose IMO.

It's an impressive car, just not all that I was expecting.

The new Viper seems to beat it consistently in terms of track times, and without the durability issues. It costs more (even with the price drop), but you get what you pay for I guess.

I hear VIR got repaved between C&D's 2013 and 2014 tests, so every car got faster times this year (2-3 sec depending on car?). Last year's results:

Holy hell, that 918 is almost 6 seconds faster than the next car (Nismo GT-R). That is INSANE! It's top speed was ~14 mph higher than the next car as well (991 Turbo S). I dont event... O_o I wonder how fast all the other similar hyper cars are, like the P1.

I'm really impressed by the new C7 Corvette's time as well. This is just the "base" model.

The new Corvette sounds really impressive - I'll have to go test drive one soon. I'm also blown away by the performance of the 918 - sure, it was supposed to be fast, but to beat the latest Turbo S and GTR Nismo (and the 458 from last year) by that kind of margin is really amazing.

It is a track car my friends and hit 280-290 F on multiple occasions at the track with LS3 or LS7 cars no biggie different engines than FA20s .. and you get a lot more than you are paying with a Z28 or Camaro 1LE..

look at the below article, with the same Pirelli Trofeo R tires Camaro 1LE stops and handle like a dream.. it can stop in 94ft from 60-0, this is a 3800+lbs car

Nice article! Exactly what I was wondering - how well would a Camaro 1LE do with the Trofeo R's. Apparently the answer is pretty darn well.

But the Z/28 comes out looking good too. You can tell from the results that Chevy's engineers spent a lot of time dialing in the chassis and fancy spool valve shocks to get the most from the Trofeo R's.

I'm still not fully convinced on 300+F oil temps being healthy for any track car (I went back and checked - they hit those temps after 3 hard laps), but the chassis/suspension work for is quite good.

Now I want to see an article showing how the C7 would do on Trofeo R's on the track

Yeah that 918... damn! I didn't think it would be that deep into the 2:40's. I would have been scared to push a car that expensive and powerful on a road course like that.

The new C7 Corvette is awesome btw. I had a chance to ride shotgun with Jack Baruth driving one at the track, and it is amazing.

Well, I would imagine that the Pilot Sport Cup 2s will be an option on the Z06, since they seem to be using Michelins for the Vettes. Those should do pretty well...

I think the Trofeo R's are supposed to be another 1-2 seconds/lap quicker than MPSC2's on some courses.
