Oh, and mike, make sure to tell the surgeon that if he's going to drop anything in you, tell him to make sure its solid gold

Or a Junior Mint. I hear those things work miracles!

My fiance had to have open heart surgery when she was 1 and again when she was 13. I forget what her condition is called but 2 of her valves were switched so now one is plastic and her heart ticks like a clock, kinda neat to listen to.

She had her operations at Doernbechers childrens hospital in Portland. Her and her parents have nothing but good things to say about that place. Obviously you won't be going to a childrens hospital but i'm sure they could give you references if you haven't already chosen a doc.

Everything I've heard about this surgeon is that he's great. He works at multiple hospitals and Universities.

Leaving here at 4AM, surgery is at 7:15. I'll see everyone on the other side!

Make sure you flirt with the nurses when you're under anesthesia!

Report back when it's all done. No shame in taking the meds if you need them. Let them know your concerns and you'll be good.

It's late Friday morning so I trust you're awake and recovering. Hopefully in relatively little pain.

I'm still alive!!!!!

I underwent the procedure without any pain meds, BIG MISTAKE.

It hurt more than I could ever have imagined. I have recovered quickly though, made it back home in 4 days!

Thanks for all the kind words and thoughts everyone.

I still have a long road ahead of me, dialing in the blood thinners, and just recovering from being split in half literally.

Glad you made it through! On a related note, I think your sanity needs to be called into question for not using any pain meds during the actual procedure.
