You and your boss should sit down and go through the Ontario Labor act together. Pretty sure a single employer cannot make someone work 7 days a week. he can ask for volunteers but cannot make a person do it and if he threatens your employment if you refuse, document it, have a witness with you and sue his/her ass off. Just saying.

I guess that means I'll be showing up at the racetrack with my NSX, then.

The new Miata looks really good from the front, but looks like poop from the back.

What about days off?

You have to be given at least 24 hours off in a row every work week or at least 48 hours off in a row every two weeks. This means you could be required to work 12 straight days without a day off.

If you're a domestic worker, you're entitled to 2 free periods each week:
1 period of 36 hours in a row
1 period of 12 hours in a row

If you're a retail worker, you're entitled to:
36 hour rest periods every seven (7) days

http://www.workrights.ca/content.php?doc=31

Has been a really useful site for me when the casino feels like going crazy.

Here's the Quebec version.

REPOS HEBDOMADAIRE
Le salarié a droit chaque semaine à un repos d’au moins 32 heures consécutives. Dans le cas du travailleur agricole, son jour de repos peut être reporté à la semaine suivante s’il est d’accord.

http://www.cnt.gouv.qc.ca/salaire-pa...ail/index.html

Enjoy your weekly 32 hours off !

@Simon99 thanks for the love and concern guys. But I have two jobs.
At the gas station I work one shift a week. It used to be an 8 hour shift, but when the current owners took over it became a 7 hour shift. Now my boss tells me that She's making three 5 hour shifts instead of two 4 hour shifts and a 7 hour shift on weekends. Honestly I don't know why the hell they changed it from two full length shifts but whatever.
My choice was either lose hours which I can't really afford, or take on the other day.

I feel like the rear is nice and the front is meh lol I wonder when it will be released. Maybe I'll need to jump ship and head into a Miata! I could probably get a good deal at work since my boss wanted me to buy a new NC when I was buying the BRZ lol

Sorry for the double post, but after reader those rules I have an amazing story for you guys.

Once upon a time I was working at the largest solar farm in Canada - third largest in the world.
The work started in December, and I got laid off in March (we were done the project).
My shift was 6:30am-5pm Monday-Friday.
Rain or shine we worked.
30 minute break all day, that's it.
We often worked Saturdays, and sometimes even Sundays. I think I had gone 3 weeks straight at one point.

I loved it though. I was borderline rolling in money.

Anyways my point is we were treated like shit lol I didn't care though. I loved that job.
These days when I go to a new job and see how easy people have it and still complain it almost pisses me off. If I can work 10 hour days with only a 30 minute break in -20, you can do whatever it is your doing with your 15 minute breaks and your 1 hour lunch.

kids these days...

I have the whitest of white-collar jobs: I'm an iPad app developer. By about 6 hours in, my back will be clicking and popping, arms sore, you name it. I can't handle being in that chair for more than about 8 hours a day before I MUST stop, and go home. I'm also getting nothing meaningful done after hour 8 anyways, so I leave.

I started my current job about 7 weeks ago. In the interview for it, I told them flat out that they should never expect more than 8hrs/day of attendance, with about 7.25 of that being actual "work". They accepted and hired me anyways.

Never underestimate the strain of a desk job.

Anyways, is there still a gathering tonight? I can make it (because I'll be done work at 5:30, you can bet on it).

As a union electrician who has also worked at a solar farm for an extended period of time (6 days a week 10 hours a day for 3 months) working for less money and allowing yourself to be worked through breaks and stuff just cheapens yourself and others. If everyone demanded their proper breaks they can't say no cause nobody will do the job. I was on one we took breaks we made money and it all worked out.

Weather-permitting, we'll try the Hunt Club and Merivale lots near the A&W.
Maybe move to the Dollar store lot before 10pm - the lights go out at 10:00 in the A&W/Mark's/CT end.

This is true. My sister lives in Japan and says that it's a well known problem there.
Employers demand 6-day work weeks, and the 6th day is volunteer (they don't pay you) because the population is so high and everybody needs a job. Since most people are willing to work that extra day, people who "complain" or don't agree to those conditions don't get jobs.

It isn't about "kids these days". This issue speaks more towards basic life conditions, if you ask me. There's a reason why we have work norms here.
