Building my exhaust
Hey guys i am planning on ordering a FT86 Speed factory Catted Header as well as the perrin 3' catback exhaust, of course as my paychecks permit
.I was wondering if i should also be looking at front-pipes/down-pipes/over-pipes(what ever you want to call them) It would obviously be 2 extra parts to the build, but are they really worth it? are their any true restrictions on stock in that area? And would they make it ridiculously loud? This is my daily driver, i need some solid noise to make me grin well i drive but don't need any ear bleeding.I am somewhat of a novice so if someone wouldn't mind to educate me a little on this topic that would be lovely ![]() Thanks in advance! |

You're likely to see more gains out of a frontpipe/overpipe than a catback to be honest. If you want quiet make sure you go for something resonated with a high flow cat.
My personal favorite is Nameless's one-piece downpipe that replaces both of these pieces with one. |

Right^? And it would be cheaper then both pieces separately, makes sense to get that. Would like to see what other people think about that over-pipe and my previous question. Edit: i feel like such an idiot but that seems like such a large part.. that does not interfere with the perrin catback exhaust? http://www.ft86speedfactory.com/perr...3inch-898.html When i said i'm a novice i meant it

Catbacks include the midpipe, axle back does not. most companies build their system to mate with the stock positions so they should be interchangable for the most part.

haha okay thank you
that clarify things. So would a nameless overpipe/downpipe, Ft86 catted uel header and perrin 3' catback be a good combo? or is it all really personal preference |

I know nameless and perrin are popular brands, you would have to search here to see how people liked the header. I am still rocking stock exhaust for now with a PTuning header on the way. I am building it header -> front pipe/overpipe -> catback so i can see how the sound progresses. ill take the power from the first 2 and deal with sound/loundness and what fits/looks/sounds best for the rest.
but really most of it is personal preference and how much you want to spend

FWIW I did my exhaust system piece by piece and had a few dyno tests in between. I first added a Borla UEL header and Tsudo 2.5" HFC front pipe. On the dyno there was an estimated gain of about 10 whp (compared to other stock baselines). Next I added a Ecutek tune which added another 17 whp. Then I added a Perrin 2.5" over-pipe, custom 2.5" Magnaflow axle-back and gained another 6 whp. My last exhaust mod was a custom 2.5" mid-pipe with a Magnaflow resonator for a loss of 2 whp. All dyno tests were done at the same shop, same dyno but the ambient air temp was much hotter for the last test which likely explains the loss of 2 whp. So not much to be gained from a larger mid-pipe.
Your proposed system would feature a 2.5" header collector dumping into a 2.125" over-pipe/front pipe and then a 3" cat-back. This is hardly ideal, not to mention the very restrictive cat in the front pipe. I suggest that you start with the header and move your way back from there. The stock cat-back is not very restrictive although not the best sounding. Also, a 3" cat-back is larger than necessary and will be unnecessarily loud. |

I've been considering front-to-back 3", for when I eventually supercharge. How many other people have done this? Is it even worth sourcing out, or just stick with a 2.5" setup?

I would do it part by part so you can gauge the amount of sound you want. Often people buy entire systems and then ask if they can add resonators to quiet them down

I was really looking forward to a custom exhaust "build" after reading the title.
