As soon as you run a custom tune, you're no longer CARB legal. The tune is part of the CARB sign off for the whole kit (any of the kits that provide a tune).

A canned tune will never be as good for performance as one custom made specifically for your car (all cars are different and need slightly different tune to be 100% optimal).

It all depends what is more important to you, staying legal, or getting the most out of the setup.

I have a question. How do they tell what tune you have for carb legality? Do you get a carb sticker or something with the carb kit?

Thanks.

I guess it's best to have the CARB tune on hand come smog day; then the rest of the time run the better performance or custom tune.

Good Q. I too am wondering.

If I had to guess...they(smog shop) can't tell. But the CARB tune is specifically made to meet emmisions guidelines.

Dunno about the sticker though. I assume they do include it.

Yui-chan would never ask any of these questions. She would simply eat cake, drink tea, then promptly fall asleep while groping a horrified girl wearing cat-ears.

Wait, what was this thread about?

I'm on the fence about supercharghing. HKS v2 kit supposedly is being released to the US market.

Then the innovate 210+ and 335 kits (hopefully the 210+ remains CARB legal)

Yes, you get a CARB sticker with a EO number to stick to your car, clearly identifying the part.

When you get a smog check, the smog tech will punch in the EO, and it will be identified as being legal.

Relevant answer: this has been covered time and again, why start another thread

On a related note, if you absolutely must go FI, then I would do the Vortech kit CARB certification is no easy thing to come by in this world, so if you find something that is certified, go for it!

Vortech looks real nice too. But it's similar to the JR (both centrifugal), so the choice is even harder now lol.

To me, the power bump is probably almost identical (Within a couple horsepower considering support mods), and both companies have years of experience designing and building kits.

Personally, I would get whichever kit is the most inexpensive, all said and done, and however necessary to maintain CARB certification (Meaning if you need a less aggressive tune in order to keep CARB happy, then get that less aggressive tune You're going to be swimming in power regardless ).
