It's not that bad really. I'd rather spend the extra money on something new that I've maintained rather than a used car that I don't know how it's been treated or maintained. So it's worth it in the long run.

How much each person pays per month is quite worthless w/o complete coverage details
collision? comprehensive? uninsured driver? rental car? med pay?

OP, if you're looking to compare rates, you should just use a comparison website or something similar to get rates tailored to YOU.

Be aware of any discount you may be able to get, which will reduce rates as well.

Jeeeze I'm seeing all these low rates and I'm starting to feel a bit screwed right now lol

23
7-8 years driving
National General
New York
-1 ticket (expired license, got pulled over the day after my 21st b-day and had no clue that's the date your license expires -__-)
-$240 / month for 10 months (2,400 a year) Full coverage, glass, no rental. $500 deductible

And that's after defensive driving! Luckily I got 1% financing and only paying $280/month for the car note

So you pay almost as much in insurance as you pay for the car? That is awful. Insurance is ridiculous. I really wish I had the money to self-insure.

You can do the math and figure age but driving for 40 years.
No tickets or accidents.
$80 a month for full coverage!

Are you guys living paycheck to paycheck?

I wouldn't assume that anyone younger than you makes less money than you.

Or that they have the same living costs that us "old" guys have! No mortgage, home improvement loans, kids school, etc, etc, etc can make a huge difference in disposable income.
At 17 almost 1/2 of my income went to my car!

Wow, some of you are paying ridiculous prices...

$96/month full coverage, $500 deductible, OEM part replacement with free glass. Also have a 200k liability policy as opposed to the 50k minimum requirement.

age 24
years of experience 6
insurance agent Pemco
what state/province you live in Washington State
any accidents or such Not on my record

@blackhawkdown Some of us young folk make significantly more than 6k/month with fewer financial responsibilities.

Young buck here.

My insurance has been within $10 of yours for my entire ownership of this car and my 'car note' was less than yours as I put in a sizable downpayment. I make less money than you and I had the car paid off in under 2 years, while maintaining >6 months of liquid assets for an emergency.

I also don't have a mortgage, the associated homeowners insurance, property taxes, only one (sometimes two or three) mouths to feed, bodies to clothe, sets of teeth to take to the dentist, I entertain myself with youtube instead of a several hundred dollar per month cable package, I don't have a landline, storage unit, life insurance policy, I'm not saving up for a new fridge, oven, washing machine, a $60 video game can keep me engrossed for dozens of hours compared to $10 for a movie ticket plus popcorn and soda (another $10 right there just for 2!), an exciting evening to me is changing my own transmission fluid, so many other things we just don't have to worry about. After I put a roof over my head, cover all my recurring monthly bills as a modern citizen nearly half my take home is 'expendable'.

I was very fortunate to graduate college with minimal debt and land gainful employment soon after, my parents went out of their way to give me the chance to succeed, for some they were too generous, for others they pale in comparison to those afflicted with affluenza, but they haven't given me a dime since I graduated (ok, maybe a couple home cooked meals). I'm a rarity sure but not an impossibility.

No I am completely fine with it. Why because I work on the river and make $75,000 a year. I don't play catch up.

As someone who works in insurance. Everyone should know the term "full coverage" is not really an insurance term. It's just a misnomer. Everyone please read your policies and see what types of coverages you're actually afforded before thinking you're covered for "everything" but when you get into accident you find out you only have liability, comprehensive, and collision only, which means you get stuck with the rental bill or paying for your own medical bills.

I advise everyone to read over your policies and check what types of coverages you have before paying for "full coverage".
