I haven't driven enough of the tracks on this list to say, nor nearly enough of the ones not on the list to really know.
One huge omission I think, and because there's absolutely no reason to leave Canada out, I'd work Mosport onto that list if I were making it up. A strong case for Tremblant could be made as well. Like the Glen, both are former F1 tracks; Mosport also hosted Can-Am events, and back in the day Champ Cars ran at Tremblant. Except for modern safety requirements and the need to have close-by distractions for the wives and girlfriends, one or the other of these two tracks might still be running F1 events. Road Atlanta and Watkins Glen have enough in common that I'd take one of them off the list. And that one would be Road Atlanta. If I were in the Southeast instead of the Northeast, I'd probably pick the other. Same with Sears Point and Mid-Ohio. At 12 hours away, I'll take Mid-O over Sears Point; when I lived in the Bay Area, I'd've gone the other way. I like Laguna Seca way more as a bike track; to me, the Corkscrew is THE quintessential bike section. Last edited by dradernh; 08-24-2014 at 12:34 AM. |

I somewhat agree with the list, but maybe not the order. I've only driven on three of the tracks in the list though, Road America, Road Atlanta, and Sonoma (back when it was Infineon).
I don't know if CoTA has the history to be that high but the track and facilities are awesome. Laguna Seca I've always thought was a little overrated. |

I'd put Sonoma and Thunderhill before Laguna Seca at this point. Laguna is a good track but it just can't compare, especially after Thunderhill's expansion. That and the surrounding community is kind of strangling the course with noise regulations.

A typical day at Lime Rock Park is now 86dB. They still sell (IIRC) 10 unmuffled days per year, but otherwise it's pretty quiet.

To be specific:
88 dB Porsche Club Day 105 dB Porsche Race Day 87 dB BMW Club 86 dB NEQ Club 86 dB NASA non-race 86 dB SCDA 88 dB Lime Rock Drivers Club 105 dB Tuesday afternoon Test & Tune. That's a track where if you've got a loud car you will learn a thing or two about decibels. Or, more likely, you won't. lol I've run a session with no complaints, and the next session everybody's yelling at me "What the heck did you just do to your exhaust!?!" Answer: nothing. At that track, if you've got a modified car that you're unsure of (or a car with a loud OEM exhaust), it helps to have a v-banded SuperTrapp handy and ready to go right on. |

Couldn't agree more! I'm certainly no expert but ORP is definitely fun. You are either going up or down, no such thing as flat. Pretty much every type of corner you can imagine, blind, off camber, highly banked, straights that aren't straight. All in 2.3 miles.

I can see why Oregon Raceway Park didn't make the list as it's a new track and not well known. I have run Luguna Seca and love it, I have run Thunderhill and love it, Will get to try the expansion this fall. Having run ORP many times for sheer driving fun with out the glamor of a Big Name, I would put it above all the rest.

This is making me excited about running VIR in a few weeks. I'll add Watkins Glen to my list for next year.
