On my way home from work, had a BMW 328i driven by some guy in a dress shirt (probably about 40) doing less than 105kph on the fast lane of the DVP (with room in front of him).
Of course, once he spots me looking to pass and go around, he speeds up with a puff of exhaust.
I don't mind, since it solves the problem of him driving slow in the fast lane - but then a gap opens up in the middle lane with room in front, so I signal to take it (not so much to pass as to avoid the traffic on either side of the middle lane).

Bimmerboy sees this, and swoops into the lane, and then keeps pace with the traffic on either side (essentially blocking up the one free-flowing lane).
I'm starting to sense something not quite right, but I figure I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and try to take the spot he has now vacated on the passing lane.

The guy tries to brake check.

Unfortunately for him, his lane now slows down so I get past him without issues - now he decides he wants to ride my rear bumper (I politely wave bye bye on my way past).
I don't floor it (why waste the gas?) - but I'm now more than happy to drive a bit slower and let him be boxed in.
He finally finds an opening to cut right to the far right lane, and we stay separated for the rest of the way.

We finally get to a fork in the road, where I head left and he heads right - guy sticks his arm out the window to give me a bye-bye wave.

What is it about some people that causes them to feel the need to speed up and/or block when they see someone wants to pass?
I mean, seriously - if someone wants to go ahead of you, how does that affect your manhood or some silly notion of respect?

I drive a heavily modded bmw 335i (400+ rw hp/tq) but normally almost never encounter this type of stuff unless with another modded bmw or occasional vette that knows what my car is capable of.

But driving around in my gf's bone stock FR-S it seems like everyone wants to race. I don't get it.

Cause it would be easy to race, and people like to win.

'Heavily modded' @ 400/400? don't they come stock @ 300/300?

I don't think most people acknowledge a 3-series unless it's an M3. Not as many people know about the x35 BMWs.

Funniest "come race me bro" moment I had was when I was driving down the highway back home and I see in my rearview mirror an s2k pulling up behind me obviously VTECCCCCCCCCCCCCCCH'ing the fug outta it, so hey i thought "it's another import, why not?" i downshift and speed up a bit until the driver pulls up next to me and I realized it was my dad driving home from work. i waved back at him and he smiled, flipped me the bird and sped past

dinner was pretty embarrassing that night.

I had a number of Bimmers in the past and was eye-ing the 335 for awhile. And my local dealer has been calling about great deals on the 4-series which so happens to be in my cross-hairs lately (I love coupes). BUT I'm constantly reminded about all the recurring issues with their turbos, water pumps e.g.

So I imagine every 335 owner out there wants to exploit their cars while it's not in the shop!

You should've reported it to your Mom and see what she says...

They come stock about 285rwhp/294rwtq. I'm running a stage 2 cobb with all supporting mods on e85 50/50 fuel mixture so 400/400 was my conservative estimate since I haven't had it dyno'ed. Most with similar set ups are at about 430-450 hp/tq range.

But mostly by heavily modded I meant visually my car is lowered, wheels, exhaust, body kit, cf hood, in the sense that others will assume there are engine mods to go along with them. Also running catless downpipes and meisterschaft exhaust so pretty loud. Not saying my car is the fastest by any means.

I appreciate the sleeper factor of my car not being an M3 but it's not a complete sleeper.

That's cool, it looks clean. Heavily modded for a 300hp-stock turbo car to me means 600+ hp but I know what you're saying with aesthetic mods + power mods meaning heavily modded.

My one of many "come race bro" encounters just happened again. I was cruising in the middle way of an interstate highway and saw an IS300 coming up in the fast lane. I minded my own business until I realized he slowed down and paced me. He sped up and slowed down a few times while I continued to go at my speed. I looked over and he gave me the "let's go" signal showing off to his girlfriend in the car. I looked at him and gave a motion. His girlfriend laughed and he sped off driving like a maniac. My car is relatively stock but I still seem to get harassed by the young bros. FRS owner problem.

Just had an actual "bro" encounter

I was driving up to an on ramp downtown and noticed a "bro" in my rear view. He had an oversize baseball cap, neon wayfarers, tank top and a cigarette in hand/mouth. His left hand was hanging out the window of his e92 328i (auto i assume). We were on a 35 and he decides to cut me off going 50ish to get onto the on ramp quicker. I gave a "spirited" run to 60 to match traffic (stayed around speed limit). I guess he was scared or something once i got up to speed (my car can be loud/quick when i want it to be. wink wink). He follows me for about 2 miles then gives me the good old rice pass by. I then get a glance at his Kappa Sigma license frame and it all started to make so much sense. An actual bro, how often does that happen?!? It was like a mythical unicorn. I hate to stereotype, but this guy fit the bill so well i don't even know what real life is anymore.

Yep just had one and my gf was panicking, had no idea what was going on. Some guy in an Audi S4 tried to get me to do a 40 to ... pull in DE. He was right on my bumper for a while then pulled up next to me and started screaming and gesturing for me to put my window down. My '86 is pretty stock (Vishnu tune, axleback, intake) and definitely not made for drag racing an S4 (did it once in my BB6 and I got walked). He got pissed, did 100+ and pulled away with me playing safe. He almost hit the car ahead of him...

He was excited to have an easy win. I had an S4 revving on me the other day too. I didn't even acknowledge him and just rolled up my windows.
